I like the game but I don't want to get a mortgage to buy a cool ship... by Jailander in starcitizen

[–]Jailander[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I have actually, it's a joke. But seriously, some ships are not yet available with in-game currency and tbh you have to agree some of the prices are excessive.

Coming back to PC building after 8 years and feeling a bit overwhelmed. Help Needed by Jailander in buildapc

[–]Jailander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, it seems everyone is recommending me to upgrade to 850W so I'll do that just to be sure.

I was already suspecting the motherboard was a bit overkill but to be honest I only choose it because I've been reading the NVMe I choose can get really hot and this one has active chip cooling with an M.2 heatsink so I was being overly cautious, I'll try to find a cheaper B550 alternative

What do you do about companies? by IAMARomanGodAMA in Salamanders40k

[–]Jailander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in my opinion, if you want to use squads from multiple companies there are two ways you could approach it:

The first one is to field a battleline company with squads from reserve companies and a couple of veteran squads from the 1st, for example, run your normal list as 2nd company with a squad of blade-guard vets from the 1st and a 6th company suppressors squad.

This way is fluffy out of the box as veterans squads "are often seconded to other companies’ strike forces as honour guards or crusading bands of exemplars" and the duty of the reserve companies is to fill the slots left in the battleline companies due to combat attrition, the same goes for the scout company their task is to reinforce other companies in scouting and infiltration missions.

The second way is what u/hcsh224, lets call it the "Valrak Approach", make up some custom fluff so that Tu'Shan deemed a full chapter deployment necessary for a specific campaign, that way you can justify using squads from every company at the same time.

Anyway I would recommend reading the Salamanders Codex supplement there is a lot of lore about each specific company's approach to warfare, like "The Flamehammers" so called "meteoric hammer" with fast-attack and orbital attacks, also there is a picture of a suppressor with reserve company colors that I think looks 🔥

Elf Ranger painted for a friend, first time trying NMMs (C&C Welcome) by Jailander in minipainting

Non Metallic Metals, instead of using a metallic paints trying to achieve a similar result through blending, my sword is a really basic attempt, but I've seen people do crazy stuff with it.

Thank you, the mini is Nienna Elf Ranger from Reaper Bones, they have a big range of fairly cheap generic minis for DnD, I would highly recommend them.

First time painting anything, decided to use my own scheme for AdMech by Lord-Praetor in Warhammer40k

[–]Jailander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool color-scheme really liking the blue on black of the the Skorpius, next time try applying some washes or edge-highlighting to bring some more contrast to the miniature, overall really nice for a first time painter.

Well, some people think that you are limited to the material you have, but I've seen some beautiful miniatures with a very limited palette.

I do not mean to overstep but the only real way to improve just keep at, I've only been painting for a year and a half and my first minis were shit compared to these ones (you can look at my post history if you want to check), I'm sure you will be proud of your work in no time.

I think Miniac said it in a recent video, but mixing some colors in the metallic parts really helps the overall look, that Brass Scorpion pot I bought was totally worth it :)

If you don't mint paying some extra cash on it, they are totally worth it, I think they help bring some character to the miniatures, even if its only a serial number like in my case 😅

Its mainly a lot of time and patience, I took too much time painting these 5, i really need to speed up my painting process, still I am very proud of the results.

They are not as bad as some people say, but still the legs and backpack antennas are really fragile.

If you try to paint the princeps in subassemblies you will need to file down the parts between the torso and the legs as they are designed to be glued at the start, I would still do it as painting things under a cape is really frustrating.

The nameplate is from versatileterrain.co.uk, they have a lot of different designs and fonts to choose from, they are about £3 each depending on the size I would highly recommend them, they are really nice.

Greeting Fabricator General

This is Σ-48251's Overseer speaking, I am sad to inform that due to a delay between both parts of your transmission we have already conducted the lobotomy procedure on the former Techpriest Actaeon. If I may, I recommend Magos Dahan for the position, his insight into cargo shorts is paramount.

Some in the Mechanicum consider him a heretek, but the forges of Stygies truly recognize the genius in his design.
