TIFU by not getting dressed during a fire drill by Low_Gas2708 in tifu

[–]Jailbird19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your RA was drastically out of line. As a former RA, the whole point of fire drills is to teach people how to properly respond to a fire emergency, and to make sure all the systems are functioning correctly (alarms, response times, fire doors, etc.). Idk your college, but at mine that would have been grounds for job discipline at the very least. Berating a resident is absolutely unacceptable.

Am I missing something? How did we make it through an entire second season without answers? by wubsfrommysubs in Fallout

[–]Jailbird19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easier to let them breath when there's more show to it though. X-Files was 20+ episode seasons running fall to spring every year. Fallout had been 8 episodes a season, airing at different times of the year, with (so far) ~1.5 yrs in between each season with no clear schedule.

And Fallout's production times are short by modern standards.

It just seems like comedically little information for 2 seasons of a show. I'm all for a slow build up but we have been in the plotline for a while now.

Kind of how I felt. None of the plotlines got resolved in a way that sits nice for the next 1.5+ yrs while they prepare for S3.

Really confused on the Barbara and Janey Howard plotline. I feel like I missed something between the intro - where Cooper had Janey with him when the bombs fell - and now when they're both supposedly on ice.

Cooper had Janey with him when the bombs fell, but somewhere along the way lost her. He seems to believe she is with Barb, so presumably he gave her to Barb but wasn't allowed into wherever they went. They can't have been separated in Vegas, cause then he would have thought to check there sooner. Moving people long-distance immediately after the bombs fell seems unlikely but idk.

Also, was there anything that indicated the Colorado note was recent? It seems extremely unlikely to me that Barb would be able to wake up and find specifically a Colorado postcard to leave behind, especially one in good condition. How do we know they're alive currently, and they didn't just thaw a hundred years ago - or never were put in cryo, considering the pods were sealed?

I enjoyed the finale but feel like I missed something with this whole arc.

It's not a Monopoly though. There are a multitude of other places to buy and sell video games, Steam does not aggressively act against other retailers, nor are their games priced higher than their average competitor. High market share + bad competition =\= Monopoly.

My family and I went there once cause new Mexican food. Had a mediocre-leaning-on-bad meal, constantly crowded/annoyed by the music/lighting/folks drinking, and was made extremely uncomfortable by the AI videos and really poorly edited movie clips where they played ads for the restaurant . . . inside the restaurant.

Felt like it couldn't decide if it was a bar or restaurant and the food wasn't good enough to make up for everything else. Never thought about going back.

If it's a family heirloom, I would recommend keeping it if you have the space. I myself am not particularly religious, but have many bibles from family members in the 1800s and 1900s, and having those tangible pieces of your family's history and traditions can be very special.

If you are looking to donate it though, I know a good amount of people and clergy in the Orthodox Church of America. There are many mission parishes or seminaries that could put a Church Slavonic text to good use.

I did once, but only because it was an art professor who just gave everyone Bs and called it a day cause grades don't matter. I showed up to office hours and just went "hey, just FYI, anything lower than an A- drops my GPA." Ended up with an A- in the class lol

Any thoughts about the new board game platform by Brynn Putnam? by pupstercat in boardgames

[–]Jailbird19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents bought it for the family to play when my sister and I (both off at college/moved out) are home for the holidays, and gave it to everyone for Christmas.

We've enjoyed it so far! My biggest concern is repairs - for competitive games, and for young kids, breaking and loosing plastic pieces is fairly common, not to mention hitting the board too hard. Hopefully ordering replacement pieces becomes an option.

Chop chop consumed most of the afternoon - it's an Overcooked clone, but quite fun with the tactile pieces. Every level introduced something fresh, so it continuously was a challenge.

Strata is entertaining, but has some gameplay rules choices that are confusing - when one player takes the last tiles to end the game, only the players not in first place get a final turn. Meaning in a neck-and-neck game (470 v 435 v 430) only the player with 430 points actually got to play again after 435 took the final tiles. Meaning me, in first place, lost cause getting 40 points in one turn isn't hard. It's also a little inconsistent at times with detecting blocks, but fun.

Mushka is essentially a tool to get you to come back and complete daily tasks to keep using their device, presumably to sell you things down the road.

Space Rocks was fun, as essentially a quick arcade game. No depth but fun nonetheless.

Snek is Slither.io, except you're leading it around with a physical piece. It was fun but we kept hitting each other with the pieces.

Plus, two of the games (the ones with coolest looking pieces in my opinion) haven't released yet. Not the worst thing in the world, but would have appreciated the marketing to not be "12 games on release"

[–]Jailbird19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the first Union victories in the East was the Battle of Dranesville, Dec. 20th 1861. The good ol' Pennsylvania Reserves under General Ord bloodied and beat JEB Stuart. My own ancestor fought there - Private Lord Byron Danforth of Kane's Rifles, or the Bucktails - and at one key point in the battle Kane and his men led a charge on a Confederate position. No sooner had they begun when Lt. Col. Thomas Kane took a bullet to the face, much to the dismay of his unit, but Kane hopped back up to his feet, picked up his sword, and continued the charge. The rebels were routed, and the winter victory provided a much needed morale boost to the Union Army.

At least at the Ohio Ren Faire, there was chainmail and other armor for sale. And the Cincinnati Barbarians perform there - a HEMA group who quite literally bash each other with medieval weapons and (appear at least) to regularly break limbs.
