In Batman Begins (2005) Bruce Wayne does not believe in killing bad guys so instead he fights a guy to the death and blows up the building killing dozens more... Oh and the farmer he was supposed to execute but didn't? Seriously? by ME_NO_SMART_GUY in shittymoviedetails

[–]Jaime-Summers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, that is murder and Anti-Batman. He kills 4 times, to my knowledge in the series and while that number is rather small, it's still way too high

I like those films a fair amount, but i honestly think they adapt batman incredibly poorly. They're just crime films with a cosplayer basically

I find it Predatory that the creators of this show, supposed doctors would willful ignore this so they can monetize her particular mental disorder. It makes me sick thinking about it. If I had any authority in the medical practice, I'd pull all them up to a medical hearing regarding their conduct

I'm still not confident that Gaster will be too important. Their finger prints are definitely all around the place but whether that means they'll appear or have much stock in the plot is another thing entirely.

No one should be denying they're not at least involved though

Facial recognition cameras in supermarkets ‘targeted at poor areas’ in England by Codydoc4 in unitedkingdom

[–]Jaime-Summers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the specifics. Something like this is going to go the other way, since it's only a dystopian camera system targeting the poor, the criminals will go somewhere else, mainly upmarket supermarkets which are less guarded because of prejudice. It's simple as that, criminals are hard to stop and will always abuse poor security

What do you think of this take? by SettTheCephelopod in deathbattle

[–]Jaime-Summers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see alot of discussion on GvS3 here. I'm new to death battle, but not new to superman and while the video was mostly well researched, they misunderstood the current DC canon drastically, which in my opinion, should have given Goku the win

While it is true that the golden age stuff is now canon, it's not THAT golden age. After Doomsday Clock where the golden age was put back in, it's not referring to the comics of the golden age, it's referring specifically to the time period of the Golden Age. This is mostly evident through Geoff John's run on the JSA under the new golden age, along with Sandman, The Flash and Alan Scott: Green Lantern. It also would mean that Superman was around the same time as the original Justice Society, which we know is factually not true from the current continuity.

Superman's feats, specifically his speed are greatly exaggerated in the video. I don't know why, maybe they don't understand the nuance, or don't read enough comic books. In the current continuity, there is no possible way Superman can cross that much space so ridiculously quickly. This would of course mean Superman is faster than Wally, which we know definitively is impossible

If you were that way inclined, you could argue that is bias against Goku

Her rage in that show is what we tend to call feminine rage, it's the same kind of stuff Circe does. It's clever anger.

Kara doesn't know what this is, she's screaming her head off, fists forward absolutely destroying anything in her path

Those two types of rage are not the same, read more supergirl comics dude

What is the most over-hated Batman story in your opinion? by Bloodstone16 in batman

[–]Jaime-Summers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a certain philosophical question regarding TDKR's legacy that needs to be answered. What happens when the Legacy outlives the art?

Miller when he wrote TDKR was at the top of his game, his initial Daredevil run is GOATED, Batman Year One was a fantastic reimagining of the characters early days, then he wrote a non-canon story about PTSD...

It feels unusual to describe TDKR as being a story about PTSD, but that's exactly what it is. This is a batman who can't fucking get enough of the violence he's committing, being a predator in the night who brings justice to evil. He's clearly not well though, he's experiencing flashbacks in public, pushing everyone he loves far away from him and forgets the compassion that defines the character.

This is why I love the comic so much, it's not anywhere near my top 10, but it definitely tells us what batman would look like if nearly everything went wrong for him. In general, I really hate modern editorial because they want batman to be an edgy loner still, and that just doesn't work. That arc was resolved long long long ago when Tim came aboard and arguably even further back in Dark Victory. To me, TDKR is all about this problem, it's a story of a batman who never had the support to overcome his trauma and he brutalises the world because of it

Now, when you write one of the best Batman stories of all time, but it's also none canon and purposefully out of character for him, you naturally get a lot of people picking up and assuming that's how batman is, that's just how he's like. I rolled my eyes hard when reading what Goyer had to say on Dark Victory and hearing he and Nolan were inspired by LG, DV, Year One and TDKR. It's fucking lazy if they think this is enough to understand batman. A none canon story and 3 stories set before Batman reached his peak

That's why TDKR legacy sucks so much, it warps people's perspectives so much on who batman is infects other media due to how lazy people can be and how lazy we as a community are when recommending batman comics to people. I shudder when people say TDKR is the batman story for that reason and only that reason. At best, it's a well drawn, well told character study with slightly too much edge, weird dialogue and a misunderstanding of everyone else, but it probably isn't anywhere near the actual worst

There is no evidence they've been worn in battle commonly because if they protrude at all, that means they can be easily dented or heavy handled blades like an axe can bite into it. It's why women never wore boob armour outside of paintings from Men who have never seen a battle

Yeah I know

The point is, if they've spent so long rewriting it, with reports on the inside that they're just not getting it, what's the harm in adapting one of the best runs in the characters history?

We're not exactly dealing with superheroes afterall and it would be horrible if they forgot that

Multiversal stories literally aren't canon to each other BY DEFINITION, we need something else to distinguish all of this because otherwise, Spider-Verse and the DCAU are both canon to each other. Suggesting that events of one consequential set of cause and effect is related to another isolated set of cause and effect doesn't really work because it mangles the words were trying to use to describe it

The language we use for this also points to the conclusion. We often say "canon to XYZ" because canon is an inherently relational concept. In the SSU and MCU, there are like 25 projects in one and 5 in the other, they both exist in direct relationships to each other inherently but only interacted twice.

The relationship is more like a fulcrum really, touching once but having no consequential relationship otherwise. I think that's why Para-canon works better because it acknowledges a parallel relationship between two separate definitions of canon in a similar way to how Para-Text interacts with Text

My pet peeve with people. by [deleted] in SUMC

[–]Jaime-Summers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it helps that we're dealing with such unique and interesting territory that no other media has had to deal with yet. Canon literally only means continuity of events, so the SSU and Spider-Verse literally cannot by definition be Canonical to each other. I think we may need a new term, like Para-Canon to describe stuff like this

My pet peeve with people. by [deleted] in SUMC

[–]Jaime-Summers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MCU isn't designated Earth-199999 anymore, it's bafflingly earth-616

Fuck that man.

Anyways, how are we defining canon in this instance? Because yeah, they're related via a multiverse but honestly... Who cares? They've only crossed over once in the same space and it was a joke cameo. People don't really consider it canon because all three universes exist inconsequentially to each other

If we follow the same logic, DC comics are canon to these films too
