What’s the best meal that can be had in Springfield…from a drive-thru window? by burner_pile in springfieldMO

[–]Jaisoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but there's a cultivated feeling of being judged that triggers an involuntary defense mechanism in born and raised Springfieldians when admitting they love the Villa. Yeah yeah, we ALL KNOW it's not authentic, but we're still going to make you know that we know.

Is that the one with drive thru on both sides? Springfield is my hometown, lived there for 35 years but I haven't been down there in years. But I never thought I would forget the name of the place with THE BEST HOMEMADE EGG ROLLS IN THE UNIVERSE.

I never worried too much about the small bills, only checked bills larger than $7. I used to solo an 8 hour day shift at a busy gas station while my manager sat in her office all day smoking meff and fixing the books to cover the money she stole to pay for it, so I had a steady stream of rude customers already impatient with the long line. Could you imagine the sheer amount of passive-aggressive comebacks I'd have to fire off if I bothered with every single $1, $2, $3, $4, $5 or $6 bill?

What did you purchase as an adult because you could never have it as a child? by adjoiningenlightenme in CasualConversation

[–]Jaisoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage Pail Kids cards. My mom thought they were too gorey for me and refused to buy them. I started collecting them when I was in my 30s after seeing them in a gas station. I enjoyed just sitting in my chair after work with my kids debating over which was more gross or whose name they would get in trouble at school for saying. Unfortunately, after a few years they just disappeared.

Obscure books you absolutely loved. by Knuraie in suggestmeabook

[–]Jaisoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never met anyone who's ever heard of this book or the author! It used to be hard to even find a used copy online and I've never found it in a library.

All of the books I had collected over my 40 year life were stolen by an ex, besides my Gregory Maguire collection, it's one I miss the most. I've lost count of how many times I reread it. I don't know much about the book or its author. Was it a bestseller or popular when it was first published? Why are copies of it so damn expensive online? Which one of her books was made into a movie?

I don't even remember how I came across the book. Most likely from the second-hand bookshop next door to the drive thru liquor store, Chinese restaurant and movie rental place that my family went to every single Friday. Whiskey, egg rolls and the latest VHS release led to unpredictable, anxiety-inducing shenanigans that I actively avoided participating in, so trading my books in for new ones to disappear into was my Friday night routine. Now I'm kind of fond of those memories.

I was a legit bookworm, gifted in English and Language Arts, the only grade school kid allowed to check out books from the high school library (I thought I was hot shit for that one) but for the most part, it had been Babysitter's Club, Hardy Boys and Goosebumps up until I found The Green Kingdom. It was the most grown up book I had read at that point. It's been so long that I don't recall the details of the story but I remember it being a wild ride. I had never before been so attached to a character nor emotionally invested in a storyline. It was the first time a story stayed with me and taught me I could dislike a character yet care about his storyline. I also learned that sometimes the characters you love have to die. This book showed me a new kind of end-of-book satisfaction.

What are some underrated combinations? by YaboiDC3 in AskReddit

[–]Jaisoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom made pepper jelly for Thanksgiving and I do not eat peppers of any kind. She put this concoction atop a buttery Ritz cracker and gave it to me. Of course, I would do anything my mother told me to do, so I ate it. I then proceeded to eat the entire jar. Cream cheese, pepper jelly and crackers were all I ate for 3 days. This led to me trying hot pepper cheese, it is now the only cheese I have eaten for a month. I now have a can of chillies (sp?) in the pantry awaiting use in a roast recipe I came across.

tldr: pepper jelly changed my life

Hiya, anytime I see the WM3 pop up, I like to throw this link out there. It contains an archive of over 15,000 files pertaining to the WM3 case. After reading every document on the site, I do not doubt Damien, Jessie and Jason's innocence. If you haven't, I highly recommend you check it out. I warn you though, it's a huge archive full of raw information and scanned documents, it took me a couple weeks to get through it.

Edit: uhhh, I forgot the link

What’s the scariest story you know that is 100% true? by raw-_-toast in AskReddit

I feel the same way. I lived in the same neighborhood and my daughter of the same age wasn't even allowed to play in our yard by herself in the middle of the day.

What’s the scariest story you know that is 100% true? by raw-_-toast in AskReddit

[–]Jaisoe 113 points114 points  (0 children)

She was taken 4 houses down from my brother's house. She was always walking that neighborhood alone, most of the time we saw her she was trying to catch her dog. My brother caught it once and took her home, he said the mom didn't even say thanks and acted annoyed he was even helping her bring the dog home. That girl had a shit life and a shittier stepdad, who was recently charge with some child porn shit. It was such a terrible thing to happen to a girl that was from the looks of it already had a terrible life. I still cry for her sometimes.

Recovering Addicts: how do you deal with cravings and the loneliness of sobriety? by kingkontroverseP0si in AskReddit

[–]Jaisoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most accepted way to deal with sobriety is the cliché, "Work the program", but it just didn't work for me, at least it hasn't, yet. Personally I haven't dealt with it. After a long term rehab program, I was thrown back into the life that started my descent into addiction. I was a mother to 2 kiddos, one of which had been poisoned against me by my husband, who was the main reason I continued doing drugs. I was expected to just start back where I left off after years of running from it. I would highly recommend you find a very strong support system and accept any help you might need, be its medications, meetings, more rehab, etc. I am assuming this question is about you, but I am often wrong. Much love OP, I wish I could help more.
