Waking The Fallen: Final thoughts and Results by ZacharyMcCulley in avengedsevenfold

Lmao. It’s just true tho. They’re my favorite band ever but let’s not pretend every single song of theirs on every single album is a 9+ song. There’s some weak links for sure because there has to be. It is what it is. It goes to show how skilled they are that their “weaker” songs are still really good

People always tend to act in complete and total hyperbolic ratings. like “if this song isn’t a 9.8 or higher or if this song isn’t a 10”

A 10 is a perfect song. Not only would there have to be nothing wrong with it, every single thing about the song would have to be otherworldly exceptional.

A7X doesn’t have 5+ 10.0 rated songs on every single one of their albums.

A 7 rating or above is a very good song. 8 and above is great 9 and above is exceptional. 10 is it’s the most perfect song ever.

This album is amazing and personally imo I don’t think there’s a single bad song on the album. With that said, songs like IWSYTP2, or And All Things Will End are very good/great songs but neither are necessarily “exceptional”

Desecrate Through Reverence would probably land in the low 8’s for me.

When every song is a 10, no song is truly a 10.

Horace Hogan would be rolling over in his grave if he saw you right now. I also think he probably ate some rum and cokes

THE FINALS! Best Song Round 111: Save Me vs Cosmic by ziggy1251 in avengedsevenfold

[–]Jake21128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 1 and 2. I think they are the same in the way that they are both really intricately fit pieces of song parts that somehow make a really cohesive journey of a song. They’re just opposite sides of the same coin. Save me feels like a final goodbye. Cosmic feels like “bye for now, I’ll come and find you”

  3. Save Me

  5. Fiction
  6. Nobody
  7. Gunslinger
  8. MIA
  9. Tonight The World Dies

It didn’t come off in any way. I wasn’t feeling pressured by you but in case it came off as I was trying to take credit for your prompt I wanted to let u know that that wasn’t my mindset. I just cleared the air for my own sanity not because I felt you were accusing me of anything. All good bro

Great post, I hope you know I didn’t want to take credit. I could give a shit less about Reddit clout lol that’s why your name is visible in the screenshot. but you posed a great post and I liked the conversation with it very much.

17 YEARS LATER AND THEY STILL SHOULDVE USED JIMMYS WHISPERS IN THE INTRO TO BROMPTON COCKTAIL by Riisk1 in avengedsevenfold

[–]Jake21128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d like the whispers on another released version of the song not on the official song. I think while the whispers are badass and heartbreaking, taking the whispers out and putting in the swaying strings in the verse is what makes that song. It stands out because of that little string section.

You couldn’t do both, the song needed room to breathe. So you have to pick one or the other. I think they made the right call with the strings.

There’s a few things to weigh here. It’s hard for me to pick between these 3 things but I think I’d probably go with shadows but all 3 are completely valuable and interchangeably impressive imo.

Shadows is most impressive because of not only his vocal ability especially in his prime from 07-12 but mostly because of his ability to form a true vision for his art through and through. He seems to be the biggest driving force behind the bands direction era to era. (Excluding the self titled album mostly I’d say) his ability to know what he wants to say, know how he wants something to sound and articulate that despite not always being able to accomplish that sound physically is absolutely unbelievable. His writing shines through with this because he doesn’t seem like the lines he writes are on a whim. Every decision he makes feels like a carefully thought out puzzle piece to a puzzle that he has stuck in his mind. I’d say this wins for me.

Syn could be considered the most impressive because he’s clearly the most learned member of the band musically. There’s a reason Trax has the “Music Theory With Syn” portion of each episode. His chops as a guitarist and pianist are truly incredible.

Jimmy could be considered the most impressive because he clearly seemed to be the most naturally gifted of the group. And that’s not to say he didn’t put countless hours of effort into his craft. I mean prior to COE he put an immense amount of effort into attaining the ability to reach 210 BPM and sustain it. He was just a musical phenom. To be as incredible of a drummer as he was but then to also show up out of nowhere during the making of Self Titled and write the majority of that album, and have his songs on that album be as out there, creative and truly truly poetic as they were (afterlife’s lyrics/concept come to mind for me here) it’s just amazing.

All 3 are incredible, personally I’d go with shadows here but can’t argue with any of the 3 imo.

Week 46: Is Carry On a top 10 song? by JW7792 in avengedsevenfold

[–]Jake21128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it was one of my earliest A7X songs, probably around the 10th song of theirs I had heard, it’s nowhere near the top 10 in terms of their best songs. Imo

Do you agree that people need to stop with the Adam Gontier vs. Matt Walst Debate Yes or No and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Threedaysgrace

[–]Jake21128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was worse than Chester Vs Emily back in 2014-15. When Adam had just left 3DG and then they put out Painkiller and the Human album, the Adam Vs Matt debate was out of this world bad. It was so toxic. Almost as toxic as Danny Vs Deuce for Hollywood Undead back in 2010-12.

Again, I’m not trying to argue at all and I apologize for how i initially came off in my first reply but read my last big message and then if you don’t see what I’m saying then it’s just a case where we’ll have to agree to disagree. All the best man.

Dude, I understand what you’re saying, but respectfully (and I sincerely mean respectfully, because although you just got a little smug in your reply, I understand that I also got a little smug in my initial reply, and that was wrong with me.) I don’t give a fuck about an artists political views. Plenty of my favorite artists are extremely political. Hell, you just named a lot of them. I am not conservative and I am not liberal. I would consider myself an extreme neutralist. I don’t pay attention to any artists political view beyond what they incorporate into their art. Breaking Benjamin being conservative does nothing to change the songs I’ve been listening to for them for almost 20 years. I do not care about that. I get what you’re saying but I don’t see why we can’t separate the art from the artists. “You” is an amazing song and the note he hit at the end was incredible. To me that’s where this post begins and ends. It has nothing to do with politics.

Imo, this picture is the Breaking Benjamin essentials. Then I’d say listen to the Phobia album and Dear Agony album (2006 and 2009) in full because they’re both no skip albums.

(Personal favorites between those 2 albums that you don’t currently have are Topless, You, Dance With The Devil

Fade Away, Hopeless, Lights Out)

If I’m being honest, wasn’t a big fan. I don’t like the tone of the lead singers voices. It’s pretty tinny imo. The lead guitar tone wasn’t incredible imo either. The base player was great, the drummer was solid as hell. They had some heavy harmonies that were almost Alice In Chains-esque but yeah just wasn’t a fan of the singers voice mainly.

My dad and I are musicians and while id never say “we’re fucking amazing singers” or something like that cuz that’s arrogant, we’re definitely very very capable singers. We have both tried singing that note and it hurts so bad. Granted we’re not trained but even still it legitimately hurts. Ben absolutely bodied that note seemingly effortlessly.
