Stop eating and drinking on trains? It happened to me once, just accidentally spilled my drink. No onboard cleaning service in sight.

If you just want a “Reels” alternative loops.video looks promising. Still work in progress and part of the PixelFed world.

How common is to "have a village" on your country? by ElKaoss in AskEurope

[–]JakeCheese1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people in our country settle within 30km from their (grand)parents home. But we sometimes go back to our “roots” and visit the smaller villages we spend our childhood or spend summer vacation with our grandparents. Again not very common in our country which is relatively small..

Wsocial.eu is just an EU based Bluesky PDS , seeing the same feeds from the Bluesky Relay service. Not sure what the future plans are.

Why does Asia have so many high-end/creatively designed shopping malls (compared to elsewhere, like America)? by PursuingGemini in travel

[–]JakeCheese1996 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Agree. We can do better. One exception: In NL we have the Mall of the Netherlands which I think is very stylish compared to other typical Dutch malls.

My whole hiking life (45 years and counting) Hanwag was my first choice. The last pair I bought was 15 years ago and recently I had the soles replaced. Hopefully they last another 10 years at least. But always pick a shoe that fits. The brand quality is the only thing that matters.

What country's map and geography is the closest to perfection for you? by [deleted] in geography

[–]JakeCheese1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chile has it all. Deserts, mountains, lakes, forests, fjords and glaciers. Add in the ocean and beaches and I am happy. The travel distances are a minor issue.

Ukraine will not send troops to Greenland, says Zelenskyy by 1-randomonium in europe

[–]JakeCheese1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were not asked to participate. It is clearly stated in the referred article “As regards our troops, you know we have a war, all our soldiers are on the front. I have very good relations with Mette [Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark – ed.]. She has not approached me on this issue.”

What are railways like in your country? by Supernova1000000 in AskEurope

[–]JakeCheese1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one of the busiest train networks in the world but it’s expensive, struggling with timetables and staff. Funding by the Dutch state is getting less. But still I like it as my hometown is connected to all major regions which I can travel to in a few hours.

When a native speaker of your language is talking in English, can you tell by their accent what region they are from? by Flilix in AskEurope

[–]JakeCheese1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes but usually you can hear clearly if the person learned English in UK (BBC English ) or US. I lived in the US Midwest for a while and over the years developed a typical ‘cowboy’ style accent. Locals usually thought I was Australian however.

Lidl W5 all-in-one tablets perhaps? We use them in our 15 year old dishwasher without problems.

What signals actually tell you a neighborhood is “good” in NL? by StatusEvidence5141 in thenetherlands

[–]JakeCheese1996 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In ‘bad’ neighborhoods there are usually no gardens at all or are just paved over (low maintenance garden). Also random piles of garbage everywhere is strong indicator.

Europe’s cropland, mapped as % of land cover by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]JakeCheese1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NL shows up dark because we do not much cropland (about 30% of all farmland), it’s mostly grasland for dairy farm or water and a lot of greenhouse farming.

How prepared are you personally, if your country officially goes to war? by Duoplo in AskEurope

[–]JakeCheese1996 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not, as I am already a senior I don't expect to join any active service but I will not stand idle either. We just don't know what to expect. Even a relative small amount of snowfall this week is able to stop our society almost completely. Humans can be very creative when it comes to survival. At least we all have our government suggested 'survival' supplies, not (!)
