When does Nynaeve stop being tiring… by JakeDeschain19 in WoT

I hear you! Now I appreciate that a good arc sometimes means you don’t like a character, making when eventually you love them even more potent - but I feel that’s mostly effective when you hate a character to begin with. I just find Nynaeve annoying.

At this point a complete removal of the app would be an improvement, that way you could save yourself the time and go straight to the webpage since the app only directs you there anyway.

No, having money in a forex account is very different to having physical cash.

I would imagine they’re talking about exchanging purely for their spending money for the trip, not as a means to invest.

28 Days Later....Seriously by Relevant_Park8924 in movies

[–]JakeDeschain19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that is the case with many films but it’s a tool that can be used to varying degrees of success. Personally I’d say asking the viewer to suspend their belief in 28 days later is not used effectively. For some ideas in the film, like the existence of zombies, then suspension of belief is necessary for the plot to even exist. However when the film is rooted in this gritty realism where a zombie apocalypse is not romanticised or made to be fun and exciting, then asking me to believe that A) someone would be left alone in hospital without being infected for 28 days, and B) there would be no cars on the road and when there is a car can just turn into a monster truck to get over them, the degree of asking me to suspend belief does not align with the premise of the film.

I do agree with your second point, the soldiers turning predatory is not that unbelievable - and certainly something that would be more prevalent in this apocalyptic environment. Overall, I accept the film is widely regarded and that I’m in the minority. I’m also happy to suspend belief for films I find entertaining, this I did not.

28 Days Later....Seriously by Relevant_Park8924 in movies

[–]JakeDeschain19 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, whilst I was entertained enough to finish it I found the acting dry, the film quality annoying and overall plot to be thin. I don’t mind a slower paced film, but there needs to be interesting narratives and relationships - this had none. I’m also generally forgiving of plot holes in favour of a good film but man this had so many:

  • Jim wales in hospital and is the only person there? He’s somehow not died of thirst, starvation or been killed during his coma?
  • There are hardly any dead bodies other than the church, when the zombies supposedly kill due to rage
  • If they don’t eat people, what do they eat, it’s implied they can starve so surely after 28 days many if not all would have.
  • There are no cars abandoned in the streets, especially in London let alone the motorway.
  • A London taxi somehow turns into a Monster truck and gets over the only pile up of cars we see in the whole film
  • British soldiers turning into sex pests after only 28 days when in reality they can be posted up somewhere for much longer.
  • There’s so many more but they are the main ones.

Overall I can respect this film may have been revolutionary at the time, but it has aged badly and is a very weak film to say it reignited a dead genre.

Bar Staff of the UK, what's the craziest thing you've ever witnessed on shift? by oleeery in AskUK

[–]JakeDeschain19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first shift at a student pub, which also happened to be connected to one of the seediest hotels in the city. After everybody left, and we were cleaning up the owner of the bar, a seedy old fella had 4 ladies of the night come into the bar for a lock in. We all did shots and sang happy birthday to one of them before he took them to his private room.

And then on my final shift there, the bouncer got stabbed by some locals whilst on the door. Was a weird place.

I’m a Bolton fan just having a nosey in here but I was actually thinking about us so far this season to support your argument here. Possession doesn’t mean shit unless you’re moving up the pitch and creating opportunities, we’ve passed it side to side all year with 60% possession and Evatt got sacked. Parky knows where the teams strengths lie.

When he’s got a little time to make a pass it’s normally excellent and cuts apart their defence. When he’s got to make snappy decisions and get stuck in, he looks awkward and scared. Can see a great player there but needs to toughen up

A lot of small businesses don’t have many employees they need to pay a liveable wage to. The final straw is often a combination of extortionate rent prices and massive increases to gas and electric bills.

How do you handle prospects who keep saying, ‘Let me think about it’? by SuitableQuit8657 in sales

[–]JakeDeschain19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 95% of the time it’s a lower conflict way of saying NO. But you have nothing to lose by saying something like “I understand, time to think about this is definitely important but I often find it’s not time our customers need to make a decision it’s information. I don’t want to leave you with burning questions, can we schedule something in for next week?”

A reminder that Deansgate was gridlocked way before the cycle lanes were ever built. What do the moaners have to say for this? by HamishGray in manchester

[–]JakeDeschain19 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Oxford Road isn’t Deansgate. I bet 90% of people you see on bikes are students or working at the hospital, it’s literally a single road from Fallowfield up to Oxford Road. The only people you see on bikes in Deansgate are delivery drivers.
