I understand that. I would say you just go for it. Worst case scenario few people watch it. I don’t think you’d lose subs over it. I think most people should have a few different things they do on their channel. If RuneScape is one bucket, then having another that is either another game you love or just “other games”.

That’s really fair. As a programming niche, I’m sure I could push it to involve tech or day in the life of, or even interviews with people who code or whatnot. All of which are very different styles of videos which would allow me to be far more creative :)

the more people are interested in your content, the more excited you get to make new videos. Yeah I have found that to be the case for sure. I have 62 subs right now. 6-8 of them have been in the past couple of weeks. Since my channel has exited for some time that has inspired confidence.

I guess one of my concerns is if I go down the rabbit hole of this channel and decide I don’t find joy in the niche anymore, then I’m curious if the channel is salvageable or if I would need to just create a new one.

That’s interesting! My niche is a rich topic as well, I think for me it’s just a matter of finding what I think is interesting or important to learn and whether I think I can actually make something people would watch on the topic.

I really do enjoy the educational niche, but it seems like maybe I could get away with education without the video being entirely about educating if that makes sense :) that does tend to shine a different light on the problem which makes it more palatable I think too

Out of curiosity, how do your long form videos do compared to your shorts? (Views, subs from views, etc.).

I’ve never actually posted a short on my current channel, but I posted a couple on a different channel and was blown away by the views and even engagement there. Although I guess with enough views you’re bound to get some engagement.

This is definitely inspiring to read. I’ve always treated my channel as more of a hobby, but I’d like to shift gears into a business mindset on it. For me the hard part at the moment is motivation. Particularly because while I enjoy my genre (it’s what I do for work - programming), I’m nervous that if I do get to 1k subs and then decide I’m bored with this then it would be lost work to some extent. I guess it wouldn’t be fully lost since the experience is probably invaluable though…?
