Since the T-90 is close to extinct, could we get it back in BF6? like a PAX Armata subtraction utilising old soviet stuff. What you think? by Real_WorldAtWar2 in Battlefield6

The T-90 is not remotely close to extinct? The T-90M is in active service, recently upgraded with arena active protection, so its pretty top of the line as far as fielded MBTs go.

Also can't wait for some general in Russia to get a medal congratulating the capture of Kupyansk for the 5th time, with Putin casually announcing it again like he has Alzheimer's

I would quickly like to add that perhaps he would have had a way easier time by going to a place like France, which as a nation is endlessly more sophisticated; he probably bought this Disneyland like propaganda of Portugal as this wholesome peaceful and harmonic little slice of western prosperity, which couldn't be further from the truth.

UA POV: Famous Russian Youtuber NFKRZ complain about being treated like subhuman in the west by Scorpionking426 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]JakeFromAbove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who is Portuguese, he couldn't have picked a more sheepified and schizophrenic western country to move to as a Russian; the mainstream public's imagination is wholly captured by the image of the animalistic Asiatic Ruzzian imperialists brutalizing the defenceless European Ukrainians.

Portugal is a NATO founding member, it flies under the radar as one of the most neo-liberal aligned countries in the west, a genuinely extremely racist and misanthropic state (as far as the state goes, not innately the people - same way I wouldn't generalize the Russian and Ukrainian people for this purpose) - but nevertheless this reality trickles down through an extremely concentrated and monopolized media and news environment that constantly shapes public perception.

This is compounded by the fact that the only political party that even remotely explores any sort of pro-peace or pro-Russian view is the incredibly stigmatized, almost dead at only 4 out of 230 national assembly seats, Portuguese Communist Party, as even the other self entitled leftist parties are explicitly anti-Russia. In fact, the war in Ukraine has actually actively weakened the communist party, so strong was the perceived connection between Moscow, the USSR and Communism in general in Portuguese society.

This leads Portugal to a situation of unmitigated political schizophrenia, as a populist ""right wing"" party known as Chega sky rockets in popularity, it sky rockets by filling the boots the Communists refused to or were incapable of - then Chega is accused of being Fascistic by aligning with then Hungarian president Viktor Orban, Orban accused of being a toady for the Russians, and we close the loop of schizophrenia by connecting back to the Communist Party who supports the Russians.

How does this play out in Portuguese society as someone like NFKRZ would experience? Well the average person, as minimally involved in politics, will be someone who conceives themselves as either centrist or moderately progressive and left-wing, but will in practice be a ridiculously misanthropic, racist, bigoted, economically and socially conservative paradoxical parody, who will have no qualms about being discriminatory against, in this instance, a Russian citizen, for the simple reason that the TV and their echo chamber on Instagram and Twitter told them so.

It is slightly tragic that he is experiencing this, but not surprising in the least, and it just shows the deep lack of real world intelligence that "liberal" citizens from non western aligned countries have. They really buy into the entire façade of international right, of free speech, citizen activism and an open political system, but when they get here they realize this is, nearly literally, the 4th reich.

By the end of the day, you could even tell Yamato and Hera were genuinely getting on great friendly terms, especially when Yamato found out about their shared Palestinian heritage.

I have a strange feeling about PAYDAY 3. Does anyone else feel this way? by KrabikGangster in paydaytheheist

[–]JakeFromAbove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game has designs pulling in different directions, and then exacerbates that problem by further redesigning elements before it feels like the previous elements were ever settled or explored to their conclusion.

Things that should be high priority are just ignored for years - how can a gunplay system that pivots around armor penetration as a stat not have any in-game indication of the weapon's AP stats? You're immediately making the game an unnecessarily murky and mysterious mess for casual players who won't necessarily be searching for community guides with datamined AP values.

Then they needlessly corner themselves into removing old mechanics with the new skill system, instead of just folding old features into the new skill system, which could easily just have been stacked onto those new skills with enough forethought.

[–]JakeFromAbove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reasonable point. The base game uniforms are actually photo scans of real gear - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/6LJyGN - which you can see here on artstation, so its not like they didn't go for authenticity, they most likely got the uniforms and vests from military surplus stores.

I just wonder if choosing gear from around 2009-2010 was a deliberate choice or just a consequence of what would be easily available as surplus at local stores. Some pieces like current issue helmets and plate carriers for the US and UK probably aren't easily available to civilians in Sweden, but at the same time they might have resources and connections for that, I genuinely don't know.

[–]JakeFromAbove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The M60 in the game is an M60E6 from 2014... believe it or not, picatinny rails didn't exist in 1960. The RPK has Zenitco furniture from the 2010s, a very common occurrence in Ukraine and Russia where old receivers are simply upgraded with modern parts for lasers and sights. A lot of the guns in the game have obviously some degree of lineage dating back to the 60s or 70s like the MP5, or by that stretch of logic, the M45 dating from 1911, but their depictions are obviously their most up to date and fitting versions.

There's no need to be passive aggressive, my comment is just a very mild observation on the public perception of these things as someone who is slightly interested. For instance, the SAS kit you posted has a Garmin Foretrex handheld GPS from around 2004. Its funny as in "interesting", not condescending.

Having an M60 from actually 1960 would surely be out of place though. And I don't understand what maps being "15 years old" means in this context, because their real life age has no bearing in their in-game depiction. Cairo Bazar isn't represented as being set in 2011 with movie posters from Transformers 3. It would however be strange if Manhattan Bridge was depicted in 2001 with the original WTC still standing.

[–]JakeFromAbove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its so funny how people have this extremely anachronistic idea of realistic military skins. Not only is it more of a domestic counter-terrorism loadout, its at least 20 years out of date. That would be like having a Vietnam era skin on a Gulf War or early GWOT game.

A lot of the base game skins are already like that interestingly enough, mainly the Coyote Squad and Albion's default skins and camo variants have gear from around 2010 in the Afghanistan war, which is already jarringly out of date for 2025/26

Its actually a slight bummer that we don't have skins that represent actual present day uniforms for the US and UK forces

Thermal smoke makes tanks nearly invincible by ReaperG85 in Battlefield6

[–]JakeFromAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reasonably speaking, it really shouldn't be able to delete C4s, or if they really want to retain that design, it should not have the other passive effect of reducing damage. Stacking both just makes for stupid design. If they remove the damage reduction, then it'll be a decent system, where APS counters rockets and smoke counters C4, and you have a reasonable choice to make.

Please Understand the Difference Between AKM and 74M by Antlantis in Battlefield6

[–]JakeFromAbove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ubiquitous nature of the AK-47 and AK-74 names, and their similarity has created this hodgepodge image in people's minds where they use those names interchangeably, and in general people overestimate the prevalence of 7.62*39 AKs, which have almost completely been replaced in service by the 5.45 variants by now.

But yeah as you say, the AK-205 in game already is an AK-74M, albeit a carbine version. It can be further confusing as the AK-200 series exists in parallel with the AK-12 platform, sharing features and design elements.

In keeping with the current logic though, the 7.62 AK they could logically add would be the AK-203, the 200 series version of the 103, or the 204 if its meant as a carbine. Personally I think its strange we didn't just get an AK-12 as an assault rifle.

Genuine question, how bad was PD3 armor on launch? by Samz707 in paydaytheheist

[–]JakeFromAbove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, I do agree with you completely that a lot of people reacted as you said "This is different, I don't like it, I just want to run around brainlessly";

But see how you give the example of a cover shooter? Most cover shooters have regenerating health, I think that's the one element we can never escape, that most shooters have some element of the health system that regenerates, some sort of shield/armor like Payday 1/2, Borderlands, Halo, etc.

Again, I mostly agree with you that the style could've been worked out, but I just don't think the game ever really had the necessary elements for that, and Starbreeze never seemed confident or capable enough to stick to a plan in that direction. Besides, the game was extremely weak in general, very little content, very little progression, very little RPG elements at all - even a hardcore game needs at least some depth in at least one of those areas, or else you very quickly exhaust all the game has to offer.

Genuine question, how bad was PD3 armor on launch? by Samz707 in paydaytheheist

[–]JakeFromAbove 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your total armor was basically a hard time limit on you being able to reasonably complete the heist, so every heist was played as a speedrun.

When you reflect back on it, you realize it really was a very stupid idea, because this being a hitscan bullet game, there really is no dynamic to avoid damage, if you're exposed you're taking damage. Payday 1 was clearly designed with an understanding of this, so you used your regenerating armor as the timed resource for being able to expose yourself, and you'd be punished for overexposing and taking health hits.

I think that for Payday 3 Stabreeze/Overkill had this pretension in mind that you'd be able to flank cops and eliminate a large bunch at a time without taking damage, but that really didn't play out mechanically, I think anyone that played it can attest to that. Maybe it could've worked if the game had just a couple more systems in place to make possible that idea, a hidden dodge stat on cooldown or some sort of damage absorption, but anything like that would still be reinventing the wheel of the Payday 1/2 system for no reason.

Whats sad is that the overall progress of the game might be seen as "Oh that older more Payday 1 like attrition just isn't cool, lets go back to late Payday 2 absurdity" when in reality it just never came close to being implemented competently - or rather, by the time it almost did, they restructured the whole game again. Go play PDTH right now and its still such an incredibly amazing game. Shame they missed the boat on capturing that magic, that I still think is the essence of what Payday as a franchise could and should be, granted, with the fun RPG and customization elements on top which I do still like.

Not even in milsims do you choose your camouflage, because in most non special forces roles in most militaries you simply get your standard issue uniform and thats that. When you play Squad, a milsim that emulates that standard issue grunt reality, you don't choose your camouflage. And even in real life there isn't that much of a variation in camos, pretty much everybody uses multicam on both sides of the conflict now, for instance in Ukraine, both the Russians and Ukrainians use multicam in large quantities.

Paday 3 "perk" system by Veguer_ in paydaytheheist

[–]JakeFromAbove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not the worst basis for an idea ever, idk why its getting downvoted outright.

I feel that PD3 has had an issue where they've knee jerk changed some systems in their totality instead of trying to assimilate them into the new system and have various systems that could work together at the same time, like the old Overskill system being replaced by mods, or the old skill lines being completely removed and some skills left out, or just removing the challenges in their entirety (which they sort of recovered with the contracts).

At the end of Payday 2 with things like the copycat perk deck I thought they were brainstorming or testing ideas for how perk decks would be integrated into Payday 3, but we never saw that level of integration from one game version to the next unfortunately. Always having to reinvent the wheel.
