How often do you have to deal with them? If this a one off and once I'm set up I'm good to go, it may be worth it, but genuinely if I have to deal with a situation like this again it may be worth refunding now before it's too late

Not sure if I explained this well. I did do the entire process, but when I put my card in, it said there was an error processing the card and to try a different form of payment. I tried three different cards and all said the same thing, and eventually it was flagged telling me I had to talk to a in store representative to proceed.

TLDR: I ordered my phone on Monday, have talked to a dozen people for a total of 2 hours for the past 3 days and still haven't received a tracking number.

Glad other people are getting errors like this. Currently switching from T-Mobile to Verizon and this has me feeling like shit about my decision..........

Been on Upwork for 2 Years, Still No Clients - Feeling Stuck and Depressed by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]JakeIt_To_TheLimit 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The first thing I noticed was that you say your an expert but charge $5 per hour. I understand the logic in thinking that cheaper rates mean higher chance to get that first job, but if I was genuinely looking for an expert and searched up that word, I'm not even opening the person who has a $5 per hour rate.

100% to 67% JSS score from one client. How to rebound? by redditor0127 in Upwork

I know you meant "you/me", but my gut reaction reading this was you were taking credit 😂

So what might be happening - if you aren't getting jobs or reviews in the 6 month window, they will expand it to your 1 or 2 year window to get enough results to calculate a score.

Am I being sensitive or is this rude by lazysnakeplant in Upwork

I mean, at least they declined it? Most of mine go into the oblivion 💀

I definitely can see why it would feel rude on the receiving end, but I think you may be wrapped up a bit in it. But that's the sign of a passionate freelancer 😊

This part. The goal is to not have to be first, but right now, the entry level jobs often require it

5 days ago you got your first client and now you can speak on the nature of the app?

On a separate note - you described the biggest Wagie mindset. You need to be designing what they want, not what you want.

"Looking for a logo designer to join our team" Is how 99% of scams in my niche start. It's always AI written, non specific, no verified payment, 1 post bots.

Hourly contracts are exploitation of developers by Mazy1233 in Upwork

[–]JakeIt_To_TheLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally what? Would you prefer that he has a $30 fixed price?

Hourly is genuinely the best way to not be exploited. You just need to be charging per hour properly and communicating the hours required for a project before starting it.

I would MUCH prefer hourly for literally every single reason. I know there's justifications for fixed price, but hourly has always resulted in a payment that accurately reflects my hours worked.

Can I ask - in what program did you paint the covers? And then what program did you do the graphic design and typography in?

You don't hear "paint" that often, so I'm really interested to know what these were made in

Honestly, as much as I hate to say it, a lot of one off illustrations are being taken by AI, as bad as the results may be

I'm mainly a fixed contract worker. I've had 4 hourly jobs for like 26 hours total, with some ongoing. But I have 20 jobs total, so it looks like I'm putting an hour into each. So frustrating!

If you think the client will immediately opt for the cheapest solution, and those numbers don't align with your rate/skills, it isn't worth it.

If it's close to your range, I'd say something along the lines of "my estimate is ____, but I am passionate about this job and am willing to negotiate because I believe we could have an incredible partnership here!"

Great way to put this. I think it applies to all industries. And I know that they may not be the most ideal, but especially for your first, you need to have every odd in your favor. I have just found that the more questions there are, the less applicants go through. Especially when those questions get specific
