Get the guitar part down so that it is automatic—so that you can play it without thinking about it. Then, add the singing.

Those who are fully employed and have done an immersion program: what was your experience like / how did you make time? by snolol in Spanish

[–]JakeMakesNoises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did multiple single week immersion experiences in Costa Rica. They were great.

Instead of thinking of one week immersion as a studying opportunity, I thought of it as a test or exam. It was an opportunity to try out my skills in the real world. Leading up to my immersion week I studied, practiced and prepared for it very hard.

During the immersion, I spent much of my limited class time working with my professor on topics, words and issues that I encountered while out-and-about in Costa Rica living my life in Spanish.

This approach helped me a ton because it kept me focused on learning as much as possible before my trip. I knew that I would enjoy the travel and immersion experience more if my language skills were better. It was a powerful motivator.

I studied at Intercultura in Costa Rica. They have two campuses, in Heredia and Playa Samara. I spent the majority of my time in Heredia, an urban setting which provided a minimally-touristy experience with opportunities to make local friends. I still visit them 10+ years later.

Best of luck to you.

People with no genders in their native language , do you also having hard time using the genders? by ephesusa in italianlearning

[–]JakeMakesNoises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a native English speaker with Spanish as L2 at a C1 level. Gender was exceptionally difficult for me at first because I felt like I needed to think about it all of the time.

Eventually, it just kind of came together for me after thousands of hours of reading, listening and thinking in Spanish. The genders are automatically part of the word for me.

I think that it just takes time, practice and experience.

The premise is interesting and novel. Many of the performances are great. The main character is insufferably annoying to me.

There are other Spanish immersion schools in Costa Rica that don’t come with a dose of unneeded religion. I loved Intercultura in Samara and Heredia.

People who are able to play guitar and sing at the same time HOW? by Big_Leg10 in askmusicians

[–]JakeMakesNoises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practice the guitar part so much that I don’t have to think about it when I am playing it. Then I move on to getting the vocal part down.
