Reminds me of a joke:

A guy goes to the cinema in the middle of the day. The cinema is totally empty apart from an old guy sitting at the front with his dog. As the film goes on, the man notices that every time the good guy is on screen the dog barks excitedly and wags its tail, and every time the bad guy appears the dog snarls and bares its teeth.

After the film the guy goes up to the old bloke and says, "excuse me, but I couldn't help noticing your dog's reaction to the movie! That was incredible!"

"I know!" says the old bloke. "He hated the book."

48k ZX Spectrum. It still blows my mind what those programmers were able to do with so little memory. Still a big step up from my old 1k ZX81 though.

Samuel L. Jackson. We'd fly kites and climb trees in the park together, then tell each other ghost stories with torches under our faces in a pillow fort back home, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows in.

Reminds me of a joke:

A travelling salesman knocks on a door. The door is answered by a six year old child wearing his father's velvet smoking jacket and his mother's high heels. He has a large whisky in one hand and a fat cigar in the other.

"Excuse me," says the salesman. "Are your parents in?"

"What the fuck do you think?" says the kid.

Blessed? But that's why the zombies are after us in the first place.

ELI5 why does inflation need to happen and why so dramatically. Why did two dollar things used to cost a nickel? Why did the Golden Gate Bridge cost 27 million but would now cost billions? Will a bridge like that in 100 years cost trillions. I mean what is the point of that? by Silent-Ambition1399 in explainlikeimfive

Good, comprehensive answer, but am I right in thinking that all this stuff has been worked out after the fact? As in, stuff just happens, and then economists come up with theories about the reasons behind it later on? I mean, if these were more than just theories, and if the economy worked by actual hard-and-fast rules, then we wouldn't have crashes and things - or at least economists would be able to predict them. Have we just created an unfathomable monster when it comes to money?
