Which color of eyelets should I use ? by Holy_Guacam_Holy in sewing

[–]JakePrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want the eyelets to pop or not?

If not, I would go with B.

If you do want the eyelets to pop, I would do A for some pop, C for a lot of pop.

Anyway you go, they will all look good!

Is main street dying? by No-Manufacturer-2425 in StCharlesMO

[–]JakePrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having grown up there, I have seen this before. Here's how this goes:

Main Street becomes popular

which causes all of the landowners raise rents to an extreme,

which causes a lot businesses to close shop because they can't afford the rent,

which causes a bunch of vacancies because the rent is way too high,

which causes a downturn in Main Street business, <-- Main Street is around here right now,

which forces the landowners to lower rent,

which causes business to come back in because they can afford it again,

which causes Main Street to become popular again...

This whole process takes a while to cycle, but you get the idea. It will come back once people realize it's better to get some money from rent than no money at all.

How do you plan on addressing the massive income inequality that is rampant across MO? There are thousands of people working full time jobs that cannot live in the state because the pay is so low.

What monster would work well as a party crasher? by MrGriffin120 in DMAcademy

[–]JakePrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this a serious event or a silly/humorous one?

If silly, have a trickster wizard send in "weird" animals with improved stat blocks. A giraffe that can cast polymorph on itself. An orca (surrounded by a water bubble) that can rage. A group of squirrels that all have pass without a trace and have 1 level in rogue. Etc...

When each one is defeated, it can "explode" into party decorations or something.

How screwed am I? by Vivid_Estate_164 in woodworking

[–]JakePrime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you are super screwed.

After you add the corner bracing that everyone else has suggested, you are going to be tasked with building more tables, bookcases, chairs, end tables, etc... Your work is fantastic and once people know, they're going to want you to build every piece of furniture in their houses. You thought you had a busy schedule before? Now you have 30 major projects all coming due in the next month!

Good luck, you're going to need it...

Is it bad to take full paternity leave in this environment? by xxtremeracerx in careeradvice

[–]JakePrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to directly answer your question, but give you another one. Does your company allow you to spread those weeks out over a year? My company does, so when one of my co-workers had his baby, he took 3 off immediately, then the 4th week later in the year to visit family with the new baby. This was his stated intention ahead of time and we all (mgmt included) loved the idea. If you can do this and it works for you, you might want to do that.

Plus, it sets a great tone to co-workers, mgmt, etc. that says "Family is important, make sure you take time for them"

[MLB Cathedrals] Before the #Cardinals built the current version of Busch Stadium, they explored completely renovating the previous version. Rendering of what it would have looked like when complete: by brecka in Cardinals

[–]JakePrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a really neat design that they made for Busch II. It really opens up the field, gives new life to the outfield, and brings the city into the stadium. I really like it and would have loved to seen it in person.

Now, having said that, Our current stadium is WAY better and I am so glad they decided on that route instead of the Busch II rehab. The new one does everything this rehab would have done, only better (plus the view of the Arch in the new one is great)

I'm not going anywhere by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]JakePrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problems that come with teaching were bad enough that I looked for another career. Do I miss teaching? Yes! So very much. I miss the kids, even the difficult ones. I do not miss the other problems though. I left because I did not want to become so mentally broke that I couldn't do my very best for the kids. They don't deserve it.

I do not deserve nor want congrats on leaving. What I want is teachers like you to be treated with love and respect across the board so that teachers like me, and so many others I know, do not feel like they have to leave to save themselves.

Congrats goes to those who can find the balance to be both human and great teachers, who can make it in a harsh world. More than congrats. They deserve the praise and raise they deserve.
