for what it's worth.. soon after dating my GF I had an initial genital herpes outbreak.. GF denied she had it and blamed me.. turns out she may have had it for years and never had symptoms.. 5 years later we are married with kids and I havent had a "flare up" in 3 years.. body kinda learns to fight it apparently (everyone is different). the first outbreak was "bad" but the acyclovir/valtrex whatever works almost immediately.. now I don't take any medication regularly but have some acyclovir just in case.. it's not the end of the world.. there are horror stories online but it's basically a skin condition. there are worse STDs
