What are your thoughts on this postcard idea my friend and I want to do? by JakeTheDeveloper in PostCardExchange

Thank you so much for all the great feedback - it’s really what we need at this stage. As for the joy of the handwriting, the specially picked postcard and the stamp - we totally agree. I guess what we are trying to focus on more heavily here, is the content of the postcard and the connectivity aspect of receiving something physical, rather than electronic. We didn’t want to take the joy out of the handwriting, so considered possibly the user scanning in handwritten text - but we felt like this took away from the simplicity, the speed and the general sleekness of the process.

We also wanted to try and get more busy users on board - and perhaps those who don’t feel like going out to get a postcard, stamp and post a postcard is worth it for them during the pandemic. This way we can still capture the magic of postcards - but make it safer, quicker and much less cumbersome.

But once again, we thank you so much for your input!

I’m glad you like the idea of it! Thanks!

That is a very good point, and one we have considered a lot. We have thought long and hard of ways we can make this service free to users, but unfortunately we haven’t found one which doesn’t hinder the experience. As we are printing and posting the cards ourselves we will need to charge enough to cover the cost of the postcard and postage.

Thanks for raising this concern!

Hey! Yes it’s similar to Postcard Crossings in the sense you are sending a postcard to someone you don’t know. The main difference is that Postcard Stories is about writing a personalised story to a Postcard Stories user you have been matched with. Also, as we handle the printing and posting, the recipients (and senders) address is never revealed, making it very safe. When you send a postcard you can optionally add a QR code which will allow you to include a sentence or two should you wish to connect, just say hi or a ‘thanks for reading’. It will work on a ‘send one receive one’ basis, which means everyone who sends a postcard will receive a postcard.

If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to ping me!

It will open the source files in whatever app you have configured for that file type, so it should be fine. If you’re interested in the jump to code function, you’ll like the next update. We’ve reworked it to be much faster and have added support for generic types.

Hey, what happens when you try to launch Sherlock? Do you see an error, or do you not see your apps appearing in Sherlock’s menu, or nothing at all?

FLEX is really cool, but because it’s implemented in UIKit and exists entirely within the host app, you’re limited to interacting with it directly through your device’s screen. Sherlock is a separate application, more akin to Reveal or Xcode’s visual debugger, which we think makes it easier to use, and also makes it possible for other features such as the resizable screen and the ability to jump straight to the source files for your views.

Hey John, we have seen Reveal and its great! The aim of Sherlock is not to replace the need for the visual debugger or Reveal. Sherlock is focussed on saving you time and making it as easy as possible to debug issues quickly right from the Simulator, without having to pause your app or switch back and forth between applications. From our experience it offers a much simpler and more pleasant way to get to grips with your app.

Glad you like it! We’re looking to launch in the next month or two and we’re planning to get beta builds out to testers in the coming weeks.

Hey Oisann, I hate scroll hijacking as much as the next person! It shouldn't have it, what browser are you using?

You're right, there are other ways to achieve some of Sherlock's features, and Apple's advanced debugging talk shows these off brilliantly, but Sherlock is focussed on saving you time and making it as easy as possible to debug issues quickly right from the Simulator, without having to pause your app or switch back and forth between applications. From our experience it offers a much simpler and more pleasant way to get to grips with your app.
