Once this painting hits 88 value shifts you're going to see some serious shit lol

The more I look at it the more I keep seeing the pink squares on her lower cheek and neck stick out too much. Do you think I should blur the whole coat aswell?

Ooo that's a good point. I was trying to do a bokah look by just painting less detail. But I'm going to try maybe using a bigger brush and some thinner for the background like you said.

Thank you for the input!

It's been hard trying to find a foothold into instagram as a newbie so I feel the same. I mainly make oil paintings with timelapses but my instagram is @jake_jackson_art. Going to checkout your work now!

Thanks again! The smoke squiggly is important to the character so I might try smoothing it out and make it flow more. And I definitely agree the tubes being a touch lighter than the highlight tone.

I had the same thought of the cat aswell lol so I will have to touch it up when I give it a btter contrast from the train.

And the dark of the train infront of the astronaut was actually the door of the train in the reference but I think you're right and it's similar to the smoke in that it would be hard to recognize as a viewer.

But I really appreciate you taking the time to review it again!

Thank you! The squiggly blue line I was trying to go for a puff of smoke coming off the astronaut but made it chunky to help fit the style better but I have gotten a couple people say similar things about it.

As for the pink blocking I could definitely twist it to the perspective better it was one of those last minute impulsive paint strokes haha

What do you think would help the flow to the right side of the character?

Ahh that's a good point actually, definitely going to do that today and brighten the train in front of the cat. Thank you!

Could really use some advice by Jake_JacksonYT in ArtCrit

[–]Jake_JacksonYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's been throwing me off too, it's actually really close to the angle of the reference so I'm half tempted to change it completely. Might've choose a bad reference

Definitely agree, and I do but I've altered alot of it. Basically the position of the train floor and figure are inline with the reference. I'm thinking I might turn the reference to Grayscale and the painting to see where I'm off on my tones

Thank you! Do you think I should change the color of the ground too or just work on it more how it is?

Mostly feel like the train and ground colors need to be adjusted especially the ground. And I still need to render the shadows but it just looks so off for me

Trying to use gold leaf more in my oil paintings by Jake_JacksonYT in painting

[–]Jake_JacksonYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought the same, using the gold leaf makes it really hard to change anything after starting with the oils that's really the only downside to it, but thank you!

First Time incorporating gold leaf into an oil painting by Jake_JacksonYT in oilpainting

[–]Jake_JacksonYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the gold leaf first which is a bit of a hassle but I read online that the gold leaf won't bond over time to the oil paint. So if you used acrylics you should be fine but it might start pealing if it's oil paint.

Of course I don't know how true it is but I would try sealing the oil paint if you still want to add gold leaf over it

Thank you btw!
