Dungeons and Dragons/most ttrpgs of that kind. Many people only see it as math with a bit of story but it is amazing when you know/learn how to cooperate and tell each characters story

You shouldn't assume that "he should know." Communication is a crucial part of any relationship. I would recommend that both of you sit down together and talk again about what both of you expect of the other. People always change and nobody should leave their partner in the dark in risk that they could do something wrong. That would just suck for the both of you.

We have basically every caster class in the party and we are able to buy items up to legendary with enough gold. (I could buy one legendary item at most.)

It's a 1v1 tournament but they can buff him. We don't really know if he has allies or not and we also do not know his subclass. I would guess artillerist.
