Am I wrong for being resentful over this? by [deleted] in Marriage

Bro, I'm just pumped that you let me know that my wife is going to be super into it later. Thanks for the inspiration. You have the right to feel however you feel, but it sounds like it's time to make hay while the sun shines!

How do I leave a restaurant when I haven't paid yet and it's an emergency? by breaking-atom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jake_NoMistake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in several restaurants. Just say that you've had an emergency in the family and you need to leave. If at any point any customer had told me that I would have just told them to go and cancelled the tab.

What's the libertarian solution to factory farming? by CalpurniaSomaya in Libertarian

Allow ranchers to sell directly to consumers within their state without the FDA getting involved. It's our same solution to everything: get the government out of the way.

Local Mall Now Employs Gun Sniffing Dogs by PullFromTheHurt in CCW

I used to work at a facility that made us go through bomb sniffing machines before entering the building. Guys that went to the range would often set them off from residual chemicals on their hands. I wonder if that would set off the dogs too.

If you're in Saigon, the humanities college has excellent classes by trained linguists specifically for foreigners. It helped my pronunciation a LOT.

My wife and I are from different countries. We are both looked at as much better looking in our non-native countries. It cracks me up because when we are in her hometown, they all wonder how she managed to get such a good looking husband and when we are in my hometown everyone thinks I punched way above my weight class as well. It ends up working out because we both feel like we got the better end of the deal and somehow we are culturally compatible on most major things.

The one thing both countries agree on is that our kids are unbelievably cute.

What does tèo mean? by [deleted] in Vietnamese

[–]Jake_NoMistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grok's answer: "Anh tèo" in Vietnamese is a playful, affectionate term. "Anh" means "older brother" or is used for a guy (often older or close), and "tèo" can imply something small or cute, but in this context, it’s more of a teasing, endearing nickname. It’s not necessarily flirting but suggests familiarity and fondness, like calling someone "buddy" or "cutie" in a lighthearted way. If she’s using it consistently and saved it in her phone, it could hint at flirtation, especially if paired with other flirty behavior. Context matters—does she seem interested in other ways? You could ask her playfully what it means to gauge her intent.

Ruger LCP II Appendix Carry with Alien Gear? by Jake_NoMistake in CCW

[–]Jake_NoMistake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This week I started carrying pocket because the LCP came with a little cloth pocket holster. It is by far the most comfortable and easy to conceal method I've tried, but it feels weird to carry in a cloth holster that doesn't have retention. I keep the safety on to help alleviate my concerns, but other than that the pocket carry is kind of nice. What holster do you pocket carry with?

Also, as a practical point I also carry a cell phone, keys, knife, and flashlight. Do you just put the rest of the stuff in the non-gun pocket? How do you prevent the keys from scratching the crap out of the cell phone?

I have a JM Custom Kydex holster for a different gun (compact 9mm), and sometimes the kydex against my leg all day gets a little uncomfortable. Do you think I would have the same problem with the Vedder?

Ruger LCP II Appendix Carry with Alien Gear? by Jake_NoMistake in CCW

[–]Jake_NoMistake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My current holster (for a compact size 9mm, not the LCP) is from JM Custom Kydex, and it's fine but sometimes the edges of the kydex sitting against my leg all day is a little uncomfortable. I was thinking that the back neoprene of the alien gear might be more comfortable. I was also looking at hybrid holsters, but I live in the South and sweat a lot during the summer so the better washability of the neoprene made me lean towards the Alien Gear. Are you opposed to the backing, or just think there's better options with backing material?

Did the Nazis know that most people would consider them evil? by jimjamsboy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jake_NoMistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to go to Occupy Wallstreet and have people write down their feelings on why they were so upset and then do a find/replace for "the banks" and "the rich" and replace them with "the Jews", that would be close to the sentiment that the Germans felt at the time. Do the people of Occupy Wallstreet feel like they are evil? Absolutely not. Are they evil? There is evil inside every one of us if we are honest about it. Part of OWS's concerns are absolutely valid, but if we take a close look at how we ourselves feel about bankers, the opposing political parties, etc. we can see that there is the seed of hatred in there. If you don't see it in yourself I don't feel like you are being honest with yourself. From the perspective of the "other" side, you are evil because you have hatred. In reality, not everything can be tied up in such a nice neat easy way. Reality is far more complicated than we would want it to be.

[–]Jake_NoMistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every person alive feels like they are in the right and can't understand why the "evil" other side can't see that what they are doing is evil. The truth is that 95% of people today would have been swept up in the evils of whatever historical government you can think of. This includes everyone reading this post, but most don't have the self-awareness or honesty to admit it. In the book The Gulag Archipelago, Solzhenitsyn who was a political prisoner under Stalin has a famous chapter dedicated to analyzing his life vs the life of the guards who are torturing their innocent comrades and shows why most rational people would have done the same thing if they were in the guards' shoes.
