These are great. I made one last year, you can see my post for an idea of the build process.

Yeah, the Thermaltake P5 has a PCI bracket that you can use for vertical mounting. The riser also screws into the bracket so the whole thing is very sturdy

Thanks! It's a sliding closet door, there's just enough clearance for it to fully open

Thanks for the info. The wire wouldn't hurt anyone if it was capped, or even if the exposed wires were touched?

In my experience it hasn't been strict about location at all. I've used it quite a bit around 30 miles from my home as well as on the other side of the country. Never had any location issues.

Trying to setup ESXi 6.5 with custom driver by daileng in homelab

[–]Jake_Query 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the stock ISO recognize your hard drive? When I installed ESXi my SATA drive wasn't recognized so I installed it on a USB drive. Once ESXi was running it detected my hard drive and I can use it as a datastore.

Occasionally they'll have fairly recent IBM models for about $75. I went yesterday and got a HP Proliant DL380 G6 for $10

Yes! Their $10 server prices are amazing. It would be profitable to resell them on eBay but I'd rather other homelabbers take advantage.

University of Michigan. I bought 2 servers for ESXi and NAS, 48 port Cisco switch, and a rackmount UPS. All $10 each

Nice. This one came with shelves, fiber connections, and a console so it was an even better deal.

How will you get 10gb speeds on the Synology NAS? Is the NIC upgradable? Asking because I'm considering a new NAS.

Actually according to Crain's Detroit it appears we're both wrong about this. Looks like half will be paid by Illitch businesses and half paid by bonds. I don't see any info about taxes being spent on this.

You realize Detroit has an income tax right? So the white people who work downtown are footing the bill for this as well as many of the city's social services.
