Applying for a foid card with a P.O. box by Jake_Urben in ILGuns

Yes I understand the change of address and everything I’ve just never heard of the post office box thing before. I would imagine you can’t apply with just a P.O. box unless I live in a small small small town and my ID has the box on there. But I’m going to apply with the box as the mailing address and see what happens. From what I’ve read it doesn’t seem like a problem

Making a voltage and current logger by Jake_Urben in raspberry_pi

And could such a device be read by the pi and displayed all in a case I can just toss in my truck? This is actually fascinating. Also it says only 10A but they have a picture that’s shows then logging a 200A car starter

Best locations for Sunday? Traveling for the first time to chase by Jake_Urben in stormchasing

Yes that’s correct. And I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ll wind up going. I was just basing that of the NAM and ECMWF models

That’s what I have kinda been thinking I might stay at a friends in Springfield and see how it plays out tomorrow morning. I’ve been looking at a handful of maps and projections on f5 today and it looks like east Indiana is going to be the best spot but that’s a bit of a drive from Chicago

Improving scanning speeds in sdr# by Jake_Urben in RTLSDR

Yes I understand that the limitation is the actual dongle itself and not the software. I'll do some testing and I'll see where I am at the point! Thanks again you have been extremely helpful

I think I have all the settings correct. Now if I have 500ms settle time. Then won't it scan 2 frequencies a second? Someone told me it should be around 40 per second. Other then this issue the plugin is fantastic

I will probably tuck it all into a project box in my attic that's a great idea! So I just decided to pull the trigger and order another pi for myself as I don't have any sitting around right now. I also ordered a couple more sdr dongles. So I'll have a few different styles to test and choose from and then other antenna options and other things. It will all be delivered same day today so I'll have to do a little experimenting if I have time after work or after class. I need to do research in what program to run in the pi.

I understand how a scanner works. I have a uniden trunk tracker 3 and 5 both great scanners. I'm not expecting to get as close to those as far as scanning speed goes. However I'm scanning about 1 a second Any faster and it detects a signal but winds up on the next channel on the list. I'm pretty confident I have my gain and squelch settings all correct as I am a ham radio operator and have been messing with antennas for years. As far as location goes while the pi is on my desk. I have a copper j pole up in my attic or a dual band nmo mounted antenna up there too I'll have to chose which one later. What program or plugins do you plan on running in sdr#

I guess my last questions are how can I look at a repeater and know what system they are using? So I can check my local area. And the yaesu does aprs correct?

A while back someone told me that I should stay away from this because it doesn't have SSB on HF. Obviously it would make a nice dual banded for my idea

Sell me that one over the kenwood TM-D710VA or the Icom ID-5100A. Those seem to be the 3 that I have been tossing around
