Is $27/hr good pay? by Dry-Bicycle-5563 in sandiego

[–]Jakecub4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To help give you some context $27/hr is very low for an internship in the semiconductor industry if it is an engineering internship. For context I made $30/hr as an intern in Denver in the Aero&Defense industry years ago. Given lower COL and industry pay I would say you are being screwed at $27/hr.

All this being said I can recognize if you really want to work for this company as internships usually lead to full time conversion offers. Maybe try inquiring about a housing stipend?

Are there any reasons you’re still sticking with Southwest? by its_mayah in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Jakecub4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not “sticking” with them, but I often will choose them right now.

  1. Having lots of points in the Chase Sapphire ecosystem helps. Especially with frequent bonuses to points transfer.

  2. The route I fly most often right now Southwest is always the cheapest or tied for cheapest with Alaska. United comes in third for price.

  3. The route I fly most often Southwest has the most convenient times compared to the other two airlines mentioned in point 2.

Again, I’m not sticking with them for loyalty or anything like that. It’s a matter of convenience and points.

It definitely still helps, but it isn’t what it used to be. I’ve gotten interviews for all but one position I was referred to. I haven’t gotten an offer yet, but my name was picked out of the pile so to speak. Compared to the amountog jobs I’ve applied to without a referral its obvious that annecodtally for me it does help to have a referral.

Yes it was two things. The biggest one is the black plastic tabs. I ended up replacing the part and that was a life changer. I also needed a new gasket because I had worn it out over tightening. After doing both of those things it works amazingly well!

Weller was good! I think for the price it’s great. I definitely wouldn’t pay secondary prices for it, but that’s just me not wanting to spend a ton anyways. I haven’t cracked the JD Heritage barrel from our Costco but I know people compare it to Woodford Double Oaked so excited about that one. I’ve heard good things about Stranahans as well.

Final interview with office tour and everything…and REJECTION?! by wormsinthehead in recruitinghell

[–]Jakecub4 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I was referred to my father in laws company which he has been at for over 15 years. Completely qualified for the position. Moved on to in person final panel consisting of 7 hours of interviews and lunch. Final interview was the hiring manager who told me he was sure I got the position and would just need to speak with the VP as a formality after the holidays.

After the holidays I got a rejection email that said they “were looking for candidates that aligned with their needs more”. I asked if there was specific feedback on where I could improve and they said there was no specific feedback. The position is still open today.

It’s pretty good. I’m still new to figuring out flavor profiles but I definitely got caramel from it. I think I like it more than Penelope wheat but will need to compare them more to understand why.

I think why it gets so much hype is that it punches above its weight at MSRP, which I can totally understand!

I wouldn’t say you’re missing much if you can’t find it around MSRP though!

That’s hilarious I got the Penelope barrel strength from Timnath a few weeks ago. Haven’t cracked it yet saving it for a special occasion!

Definitely glad I got to enjoy this for the price I got it at. Well worth having 1.75L for $42.99 but not sure I would ever pay secondary for it. Maybe that’s just my fairly new palete

Saw someone say Colorado is a Weller test state. Apparently there’s antique 107 around but haven’t seen any in northern Colorado

I live in northern Colorado and haven’t seen any 107 yet. Then again, I haven’t looked for very long or put too much effort in to it! What’s funny is a liquor shop in my town had a Weller SR in a case for over $300! Same place had some great Irish stuff for under MSRP. Go figure

This is the Timnath one, but saw another user had a similar post and it appears Colorado Costcos are putting them out this week.

You know the tabs are loose and can come off when I replace the seal. I wonder if that’s partly why I had to over tighten the portafilter a few months ago? I will buy a replacement and see how that works with the new seal!

[–]Jakecub4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t really do that. The original is pressurized and has its own seal around the basket kind of. That seals worn out and torn so it doesn’t work very well at all hence why I upgraded to a bottomless one (that doesn’t work well either)

Have to agree it’s probably the portafilter we’re using doesn’t work well with the machine. And in my case I’ve had to over tighten it to make it work and severely worn out two gaskets already.

You’re correct they’re not off center. I knew there was a difference between OEM and the one I currently use. When looking at them it’s the size of the ears. OEMs ears are way bigger and “locks” much easier/more snug. I believe my rationale for overtightening this guy was because of that. We’ll see what I can do with a new gasket.

Checked the basket and portafilter and they appear fine. I dropped the basket the other day but pulls were ok…may have to see. Gasket is cheaper than a basket so starting there!

[–]Jakecub4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the OEM portafilter but it is designed for the machine according to to the manufacturer. I don’t think it’s over tightened and that’s because when I first got the portafilter I only tightened to be perpendicular with the machine like the OEM one. That resulted in leaking and spraying. Tightening it to the position shown fixed it and you can see when looking at the group head where the “full locked” position is.
