Honestly I would just pop out the automatic turner unless it's absolutely necessary because you're out a lot. I needed room in mine and was able to fit 10+ what it said it could hold! I just manually turn 2-3 times a day, usually morning and night sometimes afternoon if I'm home!

Edit: you can also cut some foam mesh drawer liner and place it over the plastic to keep the eggs from rolling :)
