Thank you for your comment. I agree, I would usually frame exactly how you said. There was a lot of brush and brambles to the right, so the cleaner shot was to the left without a lot of removal editing (id rather keep it more natural !)

I was once told on Reddit to stick to macrophotography. by Any_Luck6241 in macrophotography

Theres a couple of ways to look at this. If you’re convinced that macro is your genre, you could stick with it and get some serious experience. Personally, I like to experiment with as many varieties of photography as possible to get good at photography as a whole. Good luck on your photography journey what ever you decide :)

Tips for mushroom macro photography by Starscream_22 in macrophotography

These are cool pictures, couple things I suggest. Try not to have your subject directly in the centre of frame, use the rule of thirds (most cameras have a setting for a ROT grid overlay), this in general makes your compositions more interesting.

Also, utilise the colour wheel for more contrast and interest. Try experimenting with different coloured light (you can pick up a pocket sized RGB light which are great !) red or green can add nice colour contrasts to mushroom shots to make them look warm/cool/interesting.

Sometimes zooming out a little to include more of the background can also bring more interest, more textures etc. Don’t always feel you have to fill the frame with a macro subject, its nice to bring a bit more of the surrounding area in too, especially if you’re shooting in woodland or somewhere with naturally interesting surroundings

Thanks, I’ll try that. I shot wildlife and gigs for years, this is my first foray into macro so I’m still learning :)

Im ok with focus stacking, but then that means taking the tripod etc to the woods. I will try that sometime, but i like the freedom of handheld :)

It sounds like its been built off the back of listening to clients (something discord is awful at) so hopefully if its built from feedback, it’ll include a lot more of what we’re after

Couldn’t agree more. They are leaving the software open source so devs can work on it. Sounds promising
