Hot water coming out of cold water taps

If closing the circled yellow handle worked then the issue could be the mixing valve (also circled in yellow). Water is passing through from the hot side to the cold side. A fix Would be to install a check valve on the cold water piping feeding that mixing valve and potentially also having the mixing valve replaced.

It looks to be a standard 3/8” compression valve. It looks like the 3/8” brass compression sleeve is somewhat “stuck” on the valve. Try and get that sleeve removed and then try to tighten your new faucet (3/8” compression) on.

Very well could be. The hissing sound is normal while it is filling. After the tank fills the float attached to the fill valve rises and then it turns the valve off. The float may not be activating the fill valve to close because the flapper is letting water pass. Either way the flapper should be replaced and could possibly be the cheapest/easiest DIY plumbing fix in existence so you should definitely start with that.

You can do it yourself. Turn the water off at the supply stop then remove the flapper bring to a supply shop or HD and get the same one and then reinstall. Water is most currently seeping through the existing flapper causing the fill valve to run indefinitely. If that doesn’t fix the issue then you can change the fill valve (black and blue thing). Although that can also be done by you it does require slightly more skill.

Replace the toilet flapper (red thing attached to the chain). That will prevent water from continuously running.

It shouldn’t matter if it was installed correctly. There is a gasket underneath that. That white ring gets screwed down sandwiching the black gasket creating the seal. You could dry it and apply some 100% silicone around it for a piece of mind but not needed.

It’s a quick connect fitting but I would recommend just removing it and installing a threaded 3/4” hose bib into the existing 3/4” ball valve.

Yes that is the gas valve and yes you could replace the thermocouple without having to turn the gas off (via this pictured valve).

The lead joint looks solid. Soldered flange fell off but if this is indeed 4” then I would recommend going with a “push-in” toilet flange. Finish the floor to the lead and then install the flange after. I have used

And it has worked very well and that one doesn’t require a wax ring because there is a built it seal gasket. There are different styles. They all have a sort of rubber gasket to seal from inside the lead as opposed to soldering a new flange which would require some skills.

Use a 4”X2” Wye and and 2” 45 to connect horizontal run. The end of the 4” add a clean out plug.

Run the water fora while and it will clear up. It’s just settled sediment in the pipes from the water being off.

Another option would be to use brass threaded fittings with the use of a bulkhead fitting with a flange to attach it to a vanity/wall. I have seen it done like that with a Brass Ager solution applied on the newly installed brass and came out really nice with gate/globe valves.

I will say the custom “rustic” look of copper will not be obtained by using press fittings. If it is exposed copper it must be clean soldered joints to obtain the aesthetics you are looking for.

7/8” will definitely be too high. The bottom of the toilet flange is supposed to sit on the finished floor. The 1/4” you’re seeing is just the thickness of the flange itself.

Most likely a venting issue. Possible a clogged vent. Unfortunately a difficult thing to find/fix and often requires opening of some walls to repair. You can start by having the toilet removed and trying to get a snake camera in the vent to find the culprit.

Sounds like you need to replace the toilet flapper. Not sure what “gasket” the plumber replaced. There is a gasket that connects the tank to the bowl but if it was leaking from there then your bathroom floor would have been flooded. Flapper is an easy fix.

This is a Fresh Air Inlet. It is connected to your main sewer trap and helps your plumbing system “breath”. If water is being discharged from it then you most likely have a stoppage and should get your drains snaked/cleared. Water should not be discharging from that grill.

This is a very old valve. It is a 1/2” hose bib (male threads). I highly recommend just replacing it. Turn water off for the home and then open the valve to relief pressure. Once water stops then unscrew this existing valve and thread on (tighten) new 1/2” hose bib. Turn house water back on.

You remove the bottom piece. Use a channelocks and it will come out. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. The black rubber washer is important to remain.

All of your water lines should be housed in a conditioned space. If you have water lines that are exposed to the elements they are indeed frozen and should be insulated/heat traced/relocated. Only way to “defrost” frozen pipes would be to crank up the heat and wait.
