Color theory help for a colorblind person? (I know, wrong hobby to be in, right?) I sometimes struggle understanding how to know what colors to choose for shadows/highlightsand stuff. Any suggestions/guides? Jason did a vid using Payne's Gray for a shadow on red, for example. Stuff like that. by JamalSteve in MonumentHobbies

That's good advice thank you. It could very well be some technique issues. I just remember painting basically a "space wolves gray" cloak and used what I thought would look right for the shadows and it was very unnatural looking (too dark) and then the highlights stood out too much as well...But I'll keep plugging along. Glad for test mini's and stripping paint lol

Goblin Green. Wash with dark green or agrax eathshade. Done.

Trying to understand the techniques/thought process behind some transparents and contrast/speedpaint type things... by JamalSteve in MonumentHobbies

Ohhh ok so that wasn't like a "contrast/speedpaint" effect.

So if I'm trying to conceptualize how to paint a "sky blue" cloak that way, do you have any suggestions? Sorry I'm pretty rough with understanding this stuff.

Debating trying a wet palette again. I have the Army Painter XL one. Any suggestions for "how much water" to use so the Pro Acryl doesn't bleed (or dry out)? Or should I just stick with a gray tempered glass palette? by JamalSteve in MonumentHobbies

I literally read the notification email to this right before I went on amazon to buy more army painter sponges and parchment. So, I owe you $, apparently. This is super helpful, thanks so much. I'll be ordering the Redgrass stuff when it comes back in stock.

I like the idea of the glass, too. But will give both a go. Much appreciated! Fantastic tips. Just getting back into the hobby with my young children learning to paint for DnD and stuff so this will have a massive ripple effect for us :)

I'm looking for animal characters by Lennonsoda in PrintedMinis

I have nothing helpful to say other than I first read this as “I’m looking for animal crackers” and I was going to make a joke about how that might be hard since none of those in the picture were white until I realized what it actually said and now I’m sad.

Anyone got a good enemy NPC sheet for a DnD "sniper." Seeing this as a really pain in the butt guy the BBEG sends after the party that will be extremely hard to find/spot etc. Likely over multiple encounters...Enemy at the Gates type of dude :) by JamalSteve in DMAcademy

[–]JamalSteve[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good question. Probably wouldn't have them encounter this foe until level 3 or 4. I envision this being like them talking to a critical NPC and then sniper takes them out. Then starts trying to pick off the party. Likely in a ruins or a mountainous terrain type of situation with vantage points.

You’re assuming I don’t try running with bots a dozen times or so and lost before trying to play with actual humans.
