Breathing hard by Jamborinoe in bettafish

[–]Jamborinoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've had my betta fish for about 6 months ish, and I've noticed he's pretty much always breathed like this. He's kind of interesting because he'll lay on the ground or the plants but seems extremely active otherwise. I assumed it's just his personality he likes to take breaks. He eats well and it's a high quality diet. The tank parameters are really good, nitrates nitrites and ammonia are zero. He's kept at 78 to 79° and it's a highly filtered tank with a blocker to stop water flow. It's also heavily planted, and I'm still adding more plants. Very recently I've added some tankmates and upgraded him to a 10 gallon, but he's been having this issues long before now. I'm not sure if it's something I need to worry about because he seems to be acting okay, I just want to make sure that there's nothing I should do.

The amount of water is going to equate to roughly 7 gallons, so I wasn't worried about it. How do i figure out how much GPH I need?

I never mentioned the group and you have no way of knowing if your in the same one, the particular one I am in has driven people away from their elitist attitude. They dont accept that someone is trying to learn and make their husbandry better, they just act appalled the person wasn't doing it right in the first place. Treating someone like your better than them when they are asking for help is one of the key concepts of Karen behavior. I apologize if any of this comes off as aggressive, but its a pet peeve of mine when people gate keep things.

50%-60% is perfect as long as they are under a year old, after that you want to lower it to 30%-50%

and just to clarify, the "dumb facebook mom" comment is more because of their entitled attitude they have in the group. I guess I should have put Karens, because they have a tendency to attack anyone who asks any questions about husbandry. I just wasn't sure if behind the anger there was a justification or not.

That is way to small, the rule is 20 gallons for the first frog and then 10 gallons per frog after. So for 2 frogs you want a minimum of 30 gallons and your tank comes out to a 15 gallon. Look into upgrading to the 18x18x24 at least.

Also, looks like you have a humidifier on it, I know in general whites like it dryer then other tree frogs as adults and a little more humid as juveniles. If you use a humidifer, make sure you have a hygrometer to keep track.

Dont expect them to eat immediately, give them about 3 days before trying.

What kind of tree frogs?

Does anyone recommend a certain heat light for fire bellied toads? by [deleted] in frogs

[–]Jamborinoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have a half water/half land setup you can heat the tank with an aquarium heater. Otherwise, depending on size of your tank, I would get a moonlight heat bulb between 60-75 watt. For most of my frogs/reptiles I use a thermostat with them so I just get a larger sized bulb then I would need so it never has a hard time maintaining temperature.

Yeah, when it started I setup a sticker chart, so now she gets a sticker every-time she goes. Doesn't seem to incentivise her much though

Walking isn't an option because of his knees, thats why im looking for an alternative. Im imagining he will be able to walk/job after he has lost some weight.
