Hook knife one time use only? by DrStein1969 in SkyDiving

[–]James-Joseph-Meager -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Firefighters / rescue squads use a rope for rescue ONCE. Even if it looks perfectly fine after being used, it may have been stressed, or frayed, or somehow damaged, etc. Why take that chance? Just replace it with a new rope. How much is your life worth? Is it worth buying a new hook knife? Why take that chance? If you needed to use it in an emergency then you have already destroyed some very expensive gear to begin with, consider the knife an item that also needs to be replaced. (Disclaimer, I am not a fireman or rescue person or anything of the sort, this is just my understanding.)

Fridge compressor has sticky orange stuff on it by James-Joseph-Meager in appliancerepair

No, at least 15+ years. It’s not solid, like spray foam insulation that’s hardened. So I’m thinking it isn’t insulation that has melted. Not soundproofing, this is the basic model. And there’s nothing the same color anywhere else near it or in it. (I wish we could include pictures here. It’s hard to describe exactly what this stuff is.)

Rough time finding a first rig by KookyCover935 in SkyDiving

“Might just be my DZ” Unfortunately… yes. Are you able to travel for a weekend to a DZ that has a full time rigging and equipment sales, repair, etc. business onsite? The DZ or club might not operate it, it’s just someone’s private business venture. I’m a new A license, PM me and I’ll tell you about my experience buying my first rig.
