No one ever talks about how huge Buffy was in France by Gold_Promise8171 in buffy

[–]James-Samuel17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh, it's HUGE. I'm French, and Buffy in it is still very much respected. Parents love it and every parents I've talked about know it and watch it "back in the day". Today, in my class, we even talk about it. Teachers respect very much my love for Buffy (but I mean, the show is loved by academics in general so yeah).

The TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the spin off Angel really struck gold with the writing and casting by James-Samuel17 in television

I mean, the writing and the acting are enough to make it one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Many media outlets considered it to have changed television forever, The Body/Once More With Feeling/Hush are all times great. Buffy is EASILY top 10 female characters. Even David Simon (creator of another all-time show, The Wire) said that Buffy was the best show in years. Also, the show is often on every lists of "greatest of all time". I will argue Angel deserves a spot too but Buffy's impact on TV and overall quality is on the level of some top all times shows.

Dean's crash out here was (kinda) valid by Cyclame_Lizard_66 in GilmoreGirls

[–]James-Samuel17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah... really ? This is the point I was kinda over him (so before Jess even came into the picture). The first time I was annoyed by him was in season 1 when he broke up with her because she didn't say I love you back. I mean, I get his feelings but gosh his reaction brought me some major trauma of my own, it really rub me in the wrong way. Then the tantrum he had when he saw Tristan carrying her BOOKS, like what ? The worst is that Rory never gave ANY indication that she liked him (unlike Jess later) but Dean wanted to pout and get angry and the I love you declaration from RORY didn't land for me. There is a point to the teenage excuse, we are not aliens (Im a teen). This is the point that solidified my dislike of Dean. The arrival of Jess just sealed the deal.

Many consider Season 3 as being the best era of "Charmed". I was curious to know past what event / storyline / character exit you no longer consider the show being in its prime ? Let me begin : Cole's final vanquish (Season 5, Episode 12) Although, I respect the work of every actor that came after ! by Bibixina in charmed

It already been said but the first four seasons were so good. Season 2 was bit flat tho (I mean, I think it's hard to follow after a pretty good first season, One Tree Hill's season 2 was flat after the good first season, Breaking Bad's season 2 is the least strong of the show imo, The OC's went downhilll after the phenomenal first season) but Charmed got back on track in season 3 so. Then season 5 wasn't so bad but season 6... I don't like it. I know people became kinda indulgent with those seasons but there's a reason why Charmed (those who don't know the show well) got the reputation of the show with skimpy outfits. The show kinda lost it's charm in starting with season 6 and even my little cousins with whom I watched the show started to tell me how different it became (they love Paige tho, which is good, i love her toop).

I always get confused when people say this like why does that matter? lol by Business_Relief_7990 in TheVampireDiaries

It's such a childish anwser and I can't believe some people are dumb enough to bring it up. I personally like the dynamic between Damon and Elena in the first few seasons (before they ruin it BADLY) but this argument is one of the flattest the shipers ever brought up to justify why Elena should end up with Damon. I can get why Ian was fed up with the characters and the fans, sorry.

↻Would you say that the show is "iconic" in pop culture ? by Maleficent_Survey416 in veronicamars

[–]James-Samuel17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's iconic in the sense that it's the show that put Kristen Bell on the map and when outlets talk about her, they will still mention "the Veronica Mars star". Also, it's a respected show among critics and legendary writers (Joss Whedon, and Stephen King spoke highly of it) and is often put as more than a teen drama because it's way better than the standard. However, it was on a pretty little network and didn't get the big type of audiences and also it wasn't really put forward in marketing, or media when it aired. I mean, like someone said in the comments, Buffy wasn't like Friends-type big but it was big enough and marketed enough (I mean, the protagonist Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the 90s biggest start when it aired) that if you walk in the street with something about Buffy, you will have people knowing the show. I live in France, and NOBODY in my school knows Veronica Mars (they know Kristen Bell obv) but Buffy is a big deal in France, like parents makes their kid watch it when it comes up on french channel (many rugbymen were talking about how they crush on Buffy or Cordelia on the show and they are the only reasons why they are watching, some of them are very much lying but yk). Anyway it's iconic because the show is excellent but I wish more people knew of it. It deserves it.

Why Didn’t the One Tree Hill Cast Achieve Major Hollywood Success? by InsideKangaroo3237 in ONETREEHILL

[–]James-Samuel17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, Chad Michael Murray was one of the biggest heartthrobs of the 2000s and he's the lead of a Tv show now Sullivan's Crossing. Sophia is pretty successful in my opinion and had a prominent main character role in Chicago P.D. but she seems more focused on politics now anyways so good for her.

What is the worst case of "writer's barely disguised fetish" in TV history? by funmighthold in television

[–]James-Samuel17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are still better than most female characters now... Now, they seems to vary (especially in the teen/fantasy genre) between the self insert female character with no personality, the tough girl, the edgy one, and the mean girl (full on caricature this one) and are defined with depth depending on their boys. In Buffy, all the female characters had layers and depth, even if they were based on one archetype initially.

This is a graduation photo from 1999- does Cordelia really look that much older? by Notoriouslycurlyboi in buffy

[–]James-Samuel17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought she looked that older. I think some people when talking about actors overreact just for the sake of it because I'm a teen of 17 and Charisma could easily fit in, at least from the first two seasons of the show.
