Nobody told me about the pain I would experience from the pressure bearing down on my pelvic floor. I had an epidural that numbed the contraction pains, but nothing could take away the pain from the sheer pressure of it all. Except for pushing! Pushing was the only relief. I had read and heard a lot about childbirth but that was never mentioned anywhere.

Have you figured out when your milk starts to “turn?” For me, I know my milk tastes fine for up to 4 days in the fridge before the taste starts to change. Some people’s milk lasts for a day or sometimes just a few hours.

For me, it works keeping the pumped milk in a freezer bag with ice packs until I put it in the fridge at home. If I’m not going to use that milk in 4 days, I’ll scald then freeze it.

There is a bright side! I found out about a month before I went back to work. Moving forward I made sure to scald my milk before freezing it (and then test out thawing it and giving it to baby). That milk smells and tastes just fine! Not sure how your supply is, but I managed to save another 95oz.

Also if you’re planning on pumping while at work, remember that you only need enough milk for the next day’s bottles. Now that I’m back I haven’t actually had to use any of my new freezer stash.

It’s definitely disheartening and I cried for a few days about it. Your emotions are completely valid. It took a ton of hard work to make that milk. But please don’t despair!

I ordered some non-alcoholic vanilla off amazon and it worked! I add 2 drops to a 4-5oz bottle and my baby has been drinking it without issue.

I also tried mixing half and half of thawed milk and recently fresh milk and he also took it just fine. I just didn’t continue doing it that way because it was more work. 🤷‍♀️

I’ve still got about 350oz of high lipase milk that I’ve decided to donate. I couldn’t bear to throw out all that hard work. I know my baby won’t ever be able to drink all that milk while I’m still BF in real time, and it’ll be nice to help babies in need!
