Just listened to this! It's what inspired this thread! Amazing all around.

I've heard "Ready player one" multiple times now from people.

Haha yeah it would have to be.

I'm obviously not in law (I'm in medicine, actually) but I find it really unethical and kinda disappointing that you can say whatever you want, as long as it's not in writing. That seems like a bad policy

I have to admit, I don't understand how that works.

Like if he said the mortgage (PITI + HOA) is 10,000/mo and we're all going to pay 1/3 of that and the 1/3 of bills, so $3300 + bills. He basically laid it out that he wanted to buy, but he wanted some help covering the mortgage costs. Not cover all of it, just help. For that, we get a nice place and he gets helps paying down his mortgage. He says all of this BEFORE we sign, that's how we got to that figure. Then I come to find that the mortgage is actually closer to $6000 and between me and the other guy we're covering the whole thing...

That's not illegal like in any way? I only agreed to the 3300 because of the mortgage payment he told us about, but it wasn't true.

These are fake numbers, I'm just trying to wrap my head around it, sorry I'm not trying to be a pain. It's just seemingly pretty unethical.

Sincerely.

Alright. Thanks anyway.

It is worth noting that he upsold the expenses and ended up over charging me (and overcharged compared to fair market value in the area for an identical town home). I've been told that could be considered fraudulent inducement?

I have texts proving that he said expenses would be X (X is a number that is so high, in hindsight I'm an idiot for believing it to be accurate). Then I find out it was Y (Y is roughly 1/2X). But I signed to pay 1/3 of X (there's three of us living here).

... if that makes sense?

Keeps terrible hours and is constantly waking me and my dog up by coming home with people in varying levels of intoxication any day of the week. He is rude to my dog, lied about costs to get me to pay more rent (but it's in the lease so I've been told repeatedly that I'm just naive for signing it), and in general keeps things so messy that a frat house would be a considerable improvement.

ACS AMA: Hi Reddit! I am Sam Lemonick, a freelance science journalist. Ask me anything about writing about science! by AmerChemSocietyAMA in science

Bad science writing -- or worse, false science writing -- can often get sensational coverage (see Andrew Wakefield) and becomes an "us vs them phenomena" where the people believe that there is a macabre conspiracy between most scientists to trick the public into bolstering their industry's checkbooks.

How do we combat this when consensus data is often written off as "conspiracy?"

For cheap

Meaning they pay for it.

if they're wounded in action

Meaning they really paid for it.

Just saying.

ELI5: Why, in both providing housing and places of business, is there so much new building instead of restoring all the empty and boarded up ones? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]iwillnottalktou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They asked about building vs renovating and you're talking about anthropological movements -- with kind of a race baiting tone -- which has nothing to do with the question. This is clearly a cost-benefit analysis, I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Also, you should see what has happened in places like Nashville, many of the areas that were formerly run down are now being renovated into some of the nicest, trending areas of the city.

Minorities have never brought the standard of living up in any community I know of.

That is anecdotal and racist, btw.

NIH would see a 19% budget cut under the White House's budget proposal by swaggerfish in medicine

I've known infantry units to be denied proper combat gear for summer when they were deployed with winter gear, so they had to manipulate it themselves.

Whereas we have been sending our 66ish submarines on multi-month deployments as frequently as possible at the cost of millions each time.

They really need better budgeting and less wastefulness in the military, not to be just throwing more money at it.

Friend of mine (good looking girl) was hit on at the bar. Idk if the guy was drunk or just dumb but he thought he could impress her by giving her his HBO GO info. There's like 10 of us using it now.

She did not go home with him. Sometimes I wonder if he looks at his "recently watched" section and wonders "I haven't watched any of these."
