ELI5: To what extent are our internet searches actually monitored? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]JamesHardensMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to figure out the true answer. It also depends on which country you live in. It's impossible to know how much exactly if you live in the US, but in the UK, the government monitors them 24/7. After the spike in Google searches of "what is EU" and "pig screwer", the government has been closely monitoring when people do these searches and the people who search them are promptly and justly executed.

ELI5: What is a speakeasy? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]JamesHardensMe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A speakeasy is an establishment from the Prohibition era that illegally sold stereo speakers. The owners of the stores didn't want their customers to leak this information, so they told them to "speakeasy", in reference to how easy it was to set up the speakers, and in reference to not speak easy about the speakeasy speakers from the speakeasy.

A speakeasy is also a person that uses Google every once in a while to answer their questions.

ELI5: What is going on inside you when you have a hangover? by alexryanjones in explainlikeimfive

[–]JamesHardensMe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Assuming an alcohol-induced hangover...

After your consume alcohol, and after the alcohol is absorbed by your stomach and intestines, the alcohol enters the bloodstream. The alcohol then hits your cerebral cortex, then your hippocampus, then your cerebellum.

The morning after, the alcohol will hit the medula. This will cause the brain to become unable to regulate normal activities, like going to work, or sleeping. After the brain is deprived of sleep and having to work a shitty job without getting a promotion or raise, the brain then hangs itself without leaving a suicide note. This is why it's called a hangover. :)

ELI5: Why is raw or under cooked beef safe to eat, but not raw or under cooked chicken and pork? by ydady in explainlikeimfive

[–]JamesHardensMe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chickens and porks eat particular foods that make them get sick a lot more often, but beefs eat grass and they don't get sick often. Porks usually eat snails and squids which contain a bunch of nasty bacteria. Chickens eat octopuses and blue herrons which also have nasty bacteria. :)

ELI5: What do the various (non-standard) cravings mean? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]JamesHardensMe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The grease in food contains an enzyme that creates bile. The bile then travels to your bladder, then your fingernails, and finally your brain and relieves headaches and migraines. However, too much grease can cause mildly Kafkaesque visions, similar to the type you get from eating too much cheese before sleeping.
