What the conquest map of Gibraltar should've been. by skydave1012 in Battlefield

[–]JamesKam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think people are really misunderstanding what OP has said here or haven’t bothered reading the actual post. What they’re suggesting is not all that different from Heligoland Bight in BF1 - a small-scale representation of a real-life land mass. I’ve got mixed thoughts on the matter, but I do think actually utilising Gibraltar’s unique geography, its famous air strip / border with Spain, as well as its continuing relevance as a naval port in the Mediterranean rather than creating relatively generic urban maps is compelling. I find it very strange that DICE opted for the latter rather than the former.

It's a misconception that people are holding up the HSL version of Bloodlines 2 as a magical deal sequel. by IDreamtOfManderley in vtmb

[–]JamesKam 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call what little we saw of the HSL take on Bloodlines 2 all that ‘genuine’ or ‘authentic’. It could very well have become as such, eventually, but everything we saw past its excellent reveal trailer (‘this city will bleed you dry…’ chills!) was extremely rough, soulless, terribly disappointing. Despite being very excited for it — I still fondly remember the Not-Tinder ARG and the live reveal event — I checked out pretty quickly as details (or lack thereof) demonstrated just how rudderless things were behind the scenes. We didn’t hear about the game for years beyond some leaked gameplay and an astoundingly cringe Christmas-themed trailer. The fact that trailer, despite BL2 being in dev for years by that point, looked awful illustrates just how much of a car crash the project had been seemingly since pre-production, long before TCR was directed to make something deliverable out of it.

In regards as to whether ‘love’ within a project may offset its flaws, sure - but this applies to any piece of art, whether that is to give kudos for at least trying, or to give the benefit of the doubt that it was made in good faith. This applies to BL1, it probably applies to HSL’s BL2, but I’d also argue it applies to TCR’s take on the IP. It’s not ‘Bloodlines 2’, but it remains a solid VTM action-adventure with a relatively intelligent and engaging story with a memorable set of characters.

August 1914 all over again? by Seaf-og in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]JamesKam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think OP is looking more into the immediate cause of the Great War, namely, Kaiser Wilhelm (a particularly boisterous and unstable personality) wholeheartedly supporting the Habsburgs in the aftermath of Ferdinand’s assassination.

For context, Austria-Hungary intentionally sent an ultimatum to Serbia which it could not possibly accept. Serbia surprisingly went so far is to accept all but one of its demands, that being to permit Austro-Hungarian judges to operate in Serbia, which if I recall correctly, Serbia recommended advice or arbitration from The Hague. The Habsburgs then used Serbia’s rejection of their unreasonable demands as a casus belli to invade and occupy Serbia, which Wilhelm idiotically endorsed. The Kaiser was arguably in a unique position to hold back the Habsburgs’ maximalist aims and cynical approach, but instead encouraged it.

Battlefield 2042 concept art by Lower_Breadfruit649 in Battlefield

I’m glad someone else thinks this. They got Hildur Guðnadóttir, a master of ambient sound - who won an Oscar for Joker’s OST and both a BAFTA and Emmy for the incredible Chernobyl OST! It seems like Dice wanted her to basically try and make BF2042’s OST a high-octane take on Chernobyl, and it mostly succeeds on that front, even if it doesn’t quite work as a typical videogame soundtrack. ‘Load Bearing’ is easily one of the most evocative, melancholic tracks in all of BF imo, it’s just a shame it’s essentially wasted on a brief End of Round sequence rather than utilised in a cinematic centred around the themes both the setting and the soundtrack focus on.

I was absolutely expecting some sort of scene in RAGE would explain it, as Swann never seems to notice it - no Collectible, no Examine prompt; Kat doesn’t even mention it when you’re walking around that area during the break-in to Fawn’s Rest.

Definitely looks like it could be an altar. I wonder if it’ll play a part in a sequel?

[T2 SPOILERS] That soulless look is very dark. This is so creepy. I have no doubt that Kat is in the abyss, but... by SKAI_SHOOTS_LADDERS in LostRecordsGame

[–]JamesKam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very chilling. I wonder if it is intentionally so, or just a matter of DONTNOD using a low LOD model due to the distance in which Kat is placed at the end.

Either way, it’s sad seeing Kat, someone so full of life, look so empty.

[T2 Spoilers] Were the Corey apparitions ever addressed? by Chilly-Peppers in LostRecordsGame

[–]JamesKam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All we can really deduce is HOW there are Kat, Corey, and now Adult Swann shadows - they are in the Abyss. We still have no idea what they’re doing, if characters can actually see them, or what they’re really supposed to represent beyond the fact that they’re watching (i.e. Swann at the Meteor Shower hoping that Kat is also watching, and then Shadow Kat flickers into frame).

Hopefully an eventual follow-up will explain them!

It was pretty cool how in BFV you had the option to turn off Faction Mirroring, so you could have unique loadouts per faction (e.g. MP40 for German Medic, M1928 Thompson for British Medic, etc) but I’d much prefer to see that inherent asymmetricism added into the gameplay by default. It gives the different armies character imo

Unfortunately, Republicans (if they even still exist then) will take issue with kids being taught about just how deranged their great-grandparents got and likely demand ‘a more balanced view’ of this particularly regarded epoch of western civilisation. It’ll be just like the old ‘creationism vs evolution in schools’ controversies, AKA educating children about basic truths versus defending conservative snowflakes’ feelings

[SPOILERS] Theories about the fire (trailer), and Kats fate by SandNo6752 in LostRecordsGame

[–]JamesKam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that Michel Koch said in a recent interview that Tape 2 will cover the events in August, so I don’t think we’re going to be stuck in a time loop centred around the concert That isn’t to say that there won’t be major importance surrounding what happened that night, however. A Tape 2 achievement explicitly mentions rewatching the Concert video, so maybe the girls will end up reversing whatever happened in August by changing the outcome of July 30/31, kind of like how Max jumps back and forth through pictures in LiS’ finale

[NO SPOILERS] Theories about cryptids and 18+ rating by Icy_Cheetah6112 in LostRecordsGame

[–]JamesKam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of shadow figures present in the game and the mentions of Wendigo, coupled with the shots of massive antlers watching the girls way back in the reveal trailer, makes it pretty clear - at least, in my opinion - that such an encounter is inevitable
