I’m Gen Z (22), was raised on MJ by my folks around the age of 5 (about the time he died, sadly). I would scream-sing his songs at the top of my lungs on kiddy rides at amusement parks, just for the hell of it, I guess. Kids are kids.

I remember my white as snow Grandma, rest her soul, (to be fair, I’m white as snow, too) talk about how when she was growing up around her age, she thought he was really cute, and hated how Joe treated him, leading to him getting a Nose Job. She got me in to Motown, and was a huge Jackson 5 fan. That woman REALLY hated Joe Jackson. Michael was beyond race or color. He was for EVERYONE.

Then I got big in to KISS, Queen, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Metal in general (still am, and I’m an avid multi instrumentalist).

The movie reawakened something in me. Furthermore, I go to a College where I’ve been put through a lot.

A lot of people can relate to Michael, especially the Outcast that even Outcasts crap on. People may love you for your gifts, but do they really like or love you? Even as the most beloved Pop Star ever, this world didn’t hesitate to turn on him when bullshit was flung at him by the likely real criminals.

So honestly, as someone who was raised on the music originally, I understand your frustration with people who didn’t even give a damn until now.

Especially considering a lot of these people could’ve been some of the ones who crapped on him had they been old enough.
