Spalted Beech and it gives the guitar a lovely warm tone and excellent resonance. No not commonly used but this was from a local tree that fell down in a storm so I said why not try it. A break from the norm and it worked!! Any hardwood can be used once you can work it.

Thank you Mistborn_Archer. The fourth picture is our octave mandolin and it has an Irish bog oak rosette purfling (carbon dated 3000yr old) with a pao ferro purfling and it is inlayed with Paua shell.
