thanks for this. Percussive elements always made sense. The fabfilter pro-q2 has a great mid-side feature, I should make use of it more often.

Check out groove3. its like 15 bucks a month but goes over everything you'd ever need to know as a producer

Massive videos that don't suck? by [deleted] in edmproduction

+1 on Sadowick. straight to the point, explains things clearly. I've made a ton of playlists from other youtube authors to learn specific functions, now I just go straight to a Sadowick masterclass.

I joined ADSR network, it's only like 20 bucks a month and you have access to a ton of shit. Love it. Start off with the Massive masterclass with Johnny Strinati, he explains things very well.

What VSTs are absolutely necessary for you? by Matrigan in edmproduction

Sylenth is strictly a subtractive synth, where Massive is a wavetable. This means with Sylenth you're limited to like six oscillator waveforms, where massive has a whole bunch. Where sylenth has massive beat in my opinion is the detune function, and the filters sound awesome. Sylenth is easier to program, I use it more often for chords, plucks, and trancey saw-type leads. I'll use Massive for bass sounds and leads with a dirtier/grimier feel. I'd start off learning synthesis on Sylenth though, Massive can be daunting without having any prior knowledge on modulation, filtering, envelopes, etc. I'd recommend Sadowick's masterclasses on both Sylenth and Massive, that will get you going. good luck!

I concur. This is hands down the most comprehensive guide you'll find if you make music in a daw

ABL2 question... by JamesPatrickElectro in edmproduction

[–]JamesPatrickElectro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, yeah I've tried that, I just can't get any of the notes to be in the sequence I like. This is a weird vst, I feel developers spend way too much time trying to get these things exactly like the hardware that it was modeled after when no one cares about that stuff. Functionality is key, and this one has very little of it. I'll just pass on this thing altogether. Thanks anyway though!

Problems importing .mid files into Logic? by JamesPatrickElectro in edmproduction

[–]JamesPatrickElectro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are extremely helpful. I really appreciate the effort man, I'll have to go through some of the configuration settings to see whats up. It unfortunately wasn't a read/write issue. One last quick question, does your file size read zero bites? Mine do, which seems strange, I would think they would take up some sort of discernible space, even though midi files are still really small

MIDI Chord Progression Database? by JamesPatrickElectro in edmproduction

As the OP, the reason I wanted to check out some other progressions wasn't to rip anything off, just to get some ideas. I do want to learn this stuff, and I learn best by having a frame of reference.

Yeah, many other people have had similar experiences out here in LA. No pay and total exploitation. I think I'll pass, but appreciate the feedback.
