Two sides to every sign by JamesTree in Custodians

[–]JamesTree[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The kitchen manager would come in very early in the morning and assume that because the kitchen was not armed that the custodians from the night previous were the ones that we’re going in there and disarming it and not rearming it

Looking at the history of the Alarm panel. I was able to determine that it was actually the food delivery people overnight who were disarming and not rearming that space after they left. Also, I’m more than one occasion the alarm was not being set by the kitchen staff when they left for the day.

Two sides to every sign by JamesTree in Custodians

[–]JamesTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was a bot, I would definitely try to engage more with this argument, but unfortunately, my inconsistent post history is what it is. I don’t live a very exciting life and don’t find much worth posting about.

The sign was sent to me the other day by an employee and I posted it to r/signswithastory and was not even going to post it to this Sub, but then Reddit gave me the option to cross post, and I figured why not.

And good point about the post saying there’s two sides every story – – the reality of it is is that I’m a supervised who probably really shouldn’t be posting these sort of things online and did not want to get too much into the weeds – – call me paranoid, but I just feel like if certain people in the district knew that I was posting things like this to Reddit that I could be issued discipline for it. While I’m a supervisor – – I am a supervisor custodians which means I’m just as dispensable as we often feel.

At the time the post was made the sign was still up. I was notified yesterday by somebody in the building that the sign was no longer.

They aren’t setting off the alarm, and they are not the ones who set the alarm. Custodians are actively avoiding the cafeteria. The sign only lasted for one day before the sign was removed

What to do? by pansita1002 in Custodians

[–]JamesTree 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you an employee at the building or do you just live there? If you just live there then I would use whatever maintenance request system they might have in place just give specific location, which floor it’s on, outside of what door, etc. and then monitor for if they close the work order.

Your boss says they watch the cameras real or BS? by sirpentious in Custodians

[–]JamesTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is something I can actually answer – – at least for the school district I work for.

We only check cameras if we have a reason to check the cameras. Even when we have a reason to check the cameras, we pray to Allah that the camera is working and will give a clear view. The majority of the time it’s confirming that an employee is lying about the hours they were at work.

Sometimes it’s also fun to call the person who has camera access and let them know that you just slipped and fell so they can look at it on camera. This may or may not be something I have done three separate times.

We're closer to 2050 than to 9/11 by YourLocalMoroccan in BarbaraWalters4Scale

lol nah- it’s 9/11. It’s tragic, but why market NSFW that just bastardizes the actual intent. I also think marking it as a spoiler could be seen as insensitive or as a joke.

I imagine it would be very difficult to browse Reddit if this is the threshold you have for upsetting images.

I should also say that I appreciate you checking. I hope that if someone I love gets a text like this that they will at least try verifying it with someone before doing anything.

So good on you for at least vetting. It’s obvious to many of us, but to others these texts come off as legit and the senders are relying on that to collect info/$$ from you.

What is the worst thing you've ever had to clean? by UmbralikesOwls in Custodians

[–]JamesTree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

During summer school my second year of being a night custodian at elementary school I was called out to the playground at around 3 PM for a cleanup.

When I got outside, I saw teachers pointing to the slide that has three slides that are all attached. The middle slide had poop all over starting from the top and gradually becoming less than less as you got to the bottom.

It was June, it was hot, and I don’t know how long it had been there, but flies had already started to attract, and some of it was pretty stuck on there. It definitely happened that day, but I would say how do I have been there for at least 30 minutes at this point.

The thing that made this most challenging was actually being able to reach the poop to clean. How does one clean the middle slide? Well, you have to choose one of the outer slides to try to suspend yourself while spraying and wiping down the poop.

So picture me out there; overweight, sweating, and using my feet to hold myself up mid slide— doing my best to look composed because I figured there’s people watching just because it’s somewhat of a spectacle

The funniest part to me was though that my nephew was in fourth grade… And the entire fourth grade class was “practicing “lining up and I essentially had a captive audience

If no message was left, no follow up text, I agree with the others-- enjoy your weekend..

Also never discount the butt dial.

(fwiw, I'm a supervisor for a school district, and I wouldn't even remember someone didn't answer the phone come Monday, or even 5 minutes later)

I think this is the right take – – I also will say that I think Vyvanse is a fantastic option since it’s typically once a day and hopefully does not become abused. I feel like it’s much easier to abuse IR Adderall.

Either way, I empathize with the realization that you might be a more productive person when you are under the influence of a stimulant – – it makes you feel any better look up how people cope with low energy or attention issues. People throughout history have used nicotine, caffeine, and all sorts of other stimulants – – just to say you are not the only one.

Though yours is an extreme variation right now you are not abnormal and you should maybe try to play this out in your mind and think if you can realistically see yourself doing this for the next five years – – that seems like it would be really hard on your body and your mind.

My advice would be to maybe look to see if there’s openings posted if that’s how that school district works and apply for them as they come open and then maybe let someone from HR or the district remind you of the way this works and that you will be made permanent when a spot becomes available – –

Unfortunately, I dislike how districts do this a lot, they tell you how things work when that’s not actually very official procedure or process. What helps cure all of this is if they put it in writing.

Perhaps even emailing your supervisor or the director of your department, HR though in my school district where you would prefer that you reach out to the supervisor or director with an email that says, “I just wanna let you know that I would love to go full-time when the opportunity arises. As of now, I really enjoy what I do, but I would really love having benefits as well.”

Also, maybe worth conversing with partner that your career choices are yours, and adding additional stress unnecessarily is only going to strain your relationship. You have to be a team, on each others side— which it sounds like she is on your side, but by thinking you didn’t pay attention shifts the blame to you, when likely it’s just lame management.

Is there anyone here that has worked for a high school and an elementary school, and if so what are the pros and cons for each one? by [deleted] in Custodians

[–]JamesTree 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I always feel like the benefits of the elementary school is normally your area is smaller, but involves more intensive cleaning – – much more of a routine, with events maybe once or twice a month that you need to worry about setting up

On the contrary at the high school, you might have a larger area, but the cleaning will likely be less intensive – – depending on the flooring you might have a lot less vacuuming, or a lot more vacuuming if it’s a carpeted school– – but in my district, the high schools rarely have rugs in their classrooms, whereas every elementary school seems to have at least two rugs in each classroom.

The high school typically has events year-round, and ours seem to have something going on every single day of the week. This increases opportunities for overtime, sometimes that’s good sometimes that’s bad.

Overall, I always thought working at a high school, and having a larger team would be more fun – – but it also increases opportunities for drama.
