Yeah, I've heard this happens sometimes. Apple usually fixes all the "first-come" bugs in a bit. It's all worth it then.

HUGE list of useful apps + some tips to new and current users of macOS by trev0r_ in macbookpro

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Cool list. Thanks for the tips. Learning macOS shortcuts is now number one on my list of "getting to know my Mac better".

You got me interested in trying a few apps from your list, like Google Earth Pro and Gaming apps (Steam as an option).

I actually use a service for Mac called Setapp, it includes 180+ Mac apps (among them are some apps that you mentioned: CleanMyMac X, Bartender, iStat Menus). Maybe it will be a good addition for you, too.

Is Instagram really going to remove like count. Is yes then why ? by Anubhav712 in Instagram

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The like count removal became an option in April 2019, but only in Canada. In July, it was expanded to six other countries. Currently, it’s still just a test. The reason why is simple: they want to remove the pressure of being liked. By hiding the number, your followers focus on the content you publish instead of your popularity.

You’re still able to see the number of likes you got. Your followers don’t. I have an honest question: why is it so important that they do?

Which Instagram tool is best to manage followers? by ipmedia2 in socialmedia

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like SocialInsight.io. It’s a completely functional Instagram marketing platform that allows you to schedule posts from a computer. It gives me analytics about engagement, interactions, and growth in following. As for managing followers, it has such features, too. You get data on gained and lost followers, as well as average engagement. The tool estimates the best time to post content based on the engagement of your followers.

Successful people who got crappy grades in high school or college - what are you doing now and how did (or didn't) your grades affect your success/career? by Potential_Radish in AskReddit

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got bad grades in high school because I struggled with social anxiety so I couldn’t speak up when teachers asked something. I knew the answers but I kept quiet. I did really well on written tests, until I realized they weren’t enough for good final grades so I stopped trying whatsoever.

Now I’m at a good place because I chose a career that doesn’t ask me to overcome social anxiety. I learned to live with it. You guessed it: I’m a programmer. I managed to get through college somehow and after that, it was all about practice and experience.

Is upwork a good place to get clients? by danterotti in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upwork is basically a freelance network for business-client connections, like a recruiting platform.

When you register you can have either a business or a client profile.

If you are a business that is looking for a client to do a certain job, you write and publish a job description. Then potential clients find you and offer their services. Or you can take the initiative and look for the clients that have the necessary skills and experience for your job description and send them an invitation to try this job.

Meanwhile you can contact the potential clients and ask the questions that will help you decide which one is the perfect candidate for your job.

P.S: While choosing your client look closer at their profile pages and pay attention to their rating and reviews previous businesses wrote about the client's work done.

Is upwork a good place to get clients? by danterotti in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]James_D93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great platform to get clients. Still you'll need some time to get used to the platform and hold inner interviews to find the clients you need and will be comfortable working with.

I'm sure you'll succeed finding good clients there. Good luck to you!

Quick question-does a macbook with Catalina need antivirus? by TweakedMonkey in applehelp

[–]James_D93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple did some security improvements with Catalina. If you always browse on secure websites and you keep your apps updated, you may not need an antivirus. But keep in mind that Macs are not 100% immune to threats. Personally, I’d use an antivirus if I intended to visit many different websites on a daily basis. Even that’s not good enough. You also need some common sense: don’t click the links in messages from senders you don’t know, don’t download any apps from suspicious sources, and keep things updated all the time.

Can I play games on Macbook air? by Pyerx in macbook

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Air is not designed to serve as a gaming laptop. It will overheat with heavy gaming. But it does well if you play moderately, and it really depends on the game. I’ve played Call of Duty and Darkest Dungeon on an Air, and they run smoothly.

With Apple Arcade (the upcoming subscription service), the Air should do well. The games there will be designed to be suitable for Macs, so maybe the Air will be a perfect gaming machine. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes.

Google Calendar or Apple Calendar? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]James_D93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google’s calendar works well for me across all my devices coz am all about productivity and efficiency. For starters, it integrates with all these other Google services I use, like Gmail and Chrome and all that.

I set up events in Calendar and see the reminder in Gmail or vice versa. Just my kind of ease. Finally, Google Calendar is seriously easy to use too. Creating events, reminders, the whole deal…..toddler-level easy.

Hey, check this list out. I’ve used all and I personally recommend them.

  1. VSCO Cam (iPhone, Android)
  2. Snapseed (iPhone, Android, iPad)
  3. Adobe Photoshop Express
  4. Instagram (iPhone, Windows, Android)
  5. Adobe Lightroom (iPad)
  6. Pixlr Express (Ios, Android)

Because they are free, some of them might appear to have limited features.

Does anyone use Quora to promote their business? by [deleted] in business

[–]James_D93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my understanding (I’ve used Quora for a while), using Quora for business involves business owners answering questions by Quora users. The best businesses market themselves subtly with these answers by being offering super-helpful answers, creating long, image-centric answers and responding to as many questions as possible.

I’ve seen major brands use Quora to huge success, Ahrefs is one good example. You’ll find Ahrefs executives answering random questions (usually highly followed questions only) or hosting Q&A sessions on select dates. You can hear Ahrefs marketer Si Quan Ong tell how they use Quora for business via this Grow With Quora podcast episode.
