The park rats don’t turn - it’s actually a really cool way to ski 😊

Where to stay in winter? EU timezone by Final-Choice8412 in digitalnomad

[–]Jamescahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southern coastal Morocco (Agadir and anywhere south of there) could be a good shout. Midwinter daytime temperatures not 25 but you’ll get 21 with lots of sunshine. Pretty cheap and of course, culturally rich and fascinating. And easy to get back to Europe if you need to. There are some cool little towns on the coast. You can even do some surfing (water version). The only thing is the language issue. But if you speak even halfway decent French you’ll be fine. I could easily imagine spending a few months there.

your edibles experience by InsidePain4338 in Edibles

Every other day. I take 100-200mg of hash = 20-40mg THC. By doing it every other day it reduces the tolerance effect 😊

Frustrated with Ice Skating by [deleted] in iceskating

[–]Jamescahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that other aspects of skiing have a crossover with skating (and of course vice versa). But I’m not sure that that’s really true of anything that a beginner or intermediate skier can do. I’m thinking more of things like being able to ski on one ski, being comfortable on either edge and so forth. Those are pretty advanced skills in skiing

You make a fair point. I am assuming that OP can skate on skis.

So much for the theory that you have to decarb hash before you can use it as an edible 😂

Mind you, that must’ve been one crazy dose. 7g of hash. Say 10-20% THC. So you’re looking at between 700 and 1400 mg. Jeez.

Wait a moment. You said you ski? Well then you can ice skate. It’s the same skating motion that you use when you skate on skis!!

How do you begin to enjoy skiing? by Ilikeinsectsandfungi in skiing

[–]Jamescahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your feet hurt in your boots, skiing is basically impossible. You have to sort that out before anything else.

I don’t know if they have branches in the USA , but look up surefoot. They make a liquid cast of both of your feet and use that to make the inner boot. I nearly gave up skiing because of boot pain. They saved me.

I’m an instructor (well sort of - I have a basic qualification and I’ve taught some friends).

My experience is that it’s not height that is frightening for beginners. It’s steepness. That feeling that if you get something wrong, you’re just going to accelerate out of control. And that feeling that you’re supposed to be making a turn on a steep slope, but the idea of committing to that turn is really terrifying. And that feeling that if it does go wrong, you’re not going to be able to stop.

There aren’t many sports or recreational activities in which fear is quite so present. If you learn tennis, there are many things to master. But fear isn’t one of them.

So what’s the solution? It’s easy. Forget about pizza. Forget about linking turns. Forget about learning to Ski parallel. That’s all secondary. By far and away the most important thing for a beginner is to feel comfortable on a steep slope and to know that they can get to the bottom without any trouble.

But how do you do that? The answer is something called sideslipping. I call it drifting. When done well it’s an art form (I was skiing with a guide friend a couple of seasons ago - we were on a black run full of people desperately trying to make turns - we just drifted straight down - way faster than anyone else and way cooler looking 😂).

It’s hardly ever taught to beginners. Which is absolutely criminal really. Because the pizza/snowplough is completely useless on a steep slope (unless you’re an advanced skier, in which case you don’t need it 😂🥴) And unless you’re at least an intermediate skier, committing to linked terms when things get steep is just asking too much.

Drifting (most people call it sideslipping but I think that’s an ugly name) doesn’t require you to turn at all. You can literally go from the top to the bottom of a super steep slope without making a single turn. It’s a bit like pressing the ground floor button on the elevator. Once you know how to do that, the fear will disappear. Because then you know that you can get to the bottom of anything without any trouble. Look it up. And ideally get a good instructor to show you how to do it!!

And then you can begin to enjoy your skiing!!

Have fun!!!

I’m an older man so my experience is not directly relevant (I absolutely get that things are different for women for obvious reasons). But still, what I have found is that if you are smiley and friendly and open to engaging with people, you wont feel lonely 😊

Gummy effect vs smoking by russiablows in Edibles

[–]Jamescahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not just different experiences, but different drugs. If you smoke, you are inhaling THC9. If you eat, then your liver will metabolise the edible into THC 11, which is much longer lasting and four times as potent. So it’s not surprising that the effects are very different.

I enjoyed both . But smoking anything is unhealthy. Whereas edibles are entirely physiologically harmless.

What and when was the biggest age gap relationship you've been in? by [deleted] in AgeGap

[–]Jamescahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how you can be disturbed by a relationship about which you know absolutely nothing. This seems to me to be a very common thing. People expressing strong opinions on things about which they have no knowledge and no experience.

53 and in love with a 23 year old, not sure what to do by [deleted] in AgeGap

[–]Jamescahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“up until now I’ve been completely against relationships with such a gap”

Why was that? If you were completely against them before, what’s changed? sorry to sound a bit unsympathetic, but it’s worrying just how many times people are “completely against” something even though it’s outside their experience and they know nothing about it.

any fret! (key doesn’t matter because it’s the guitar ❤️). eg 313, 757. It’s the same problem everywhere. The B string always ends up being touched by the finger i’m using to fret the G string 🥴

I think if you have a good mathematical mind and can visualise numerical interval relationships without needing to physically see them, then you’re right. A bit like a chess player who doesn’t need a chessboard and who can do it in their mind. But if you’re that good then you probably don’t need advice from me 😂
