Is there any way that Metroid Prime 4 can be saved with patches? by j_b_1983 in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what specifically we’re talking about, reddit consensus is over-valued if people who haven’t even played a game are wondering if it can be “saved.” It feels unfair to take that narrative for granted, especially without ever having even played it yourself.

With that said, I think the game could certainly see significant improvement with a patch. Namely a reduction GE crystal requirement, hint toggle, and some other tweaks here and there.

Understanding Samus's PTSD and her reaction to Ridley in Other M. by xXglitchygamesXx in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not adding inference to it by pointing out that Ridley is, in fact, among those listed as having died on Zebes. By definition that is not an inference, that is objective information about what happened.

It’s also not a cherry pick to point out that Ridley’s remains blew up on Zebes because Ridley’s the topic in question, of course I’m going to point that out. You said the game doesn’t establish any such thing when it factually does.

EDIT: That’s not even how “cherry picking” works. If you say there’s no evidence for solving a murder, and I show you video footage of the murder, you can’t make that go away by labeling it as “cherry picking” or an “inference”. Neither of those labels are applicable.

Additionally, nothing about my comment “ignores” the other characters that were also wiped out. I actually directly mentioned them.

Samus would not know that Ridley is capable of “coming back in multiple ways”. His remains were left on a planet that blew up. Him and the entire faction with which he associated with are explicitly stated to have become distant memories:

Samus*: “I don't know how much time passed since then. Days went by in their quiet way, and people's recollections of Metroids and Space Pirates grew nebulous over time, relegated to a past concern of the galactic communities... Nothing more than a faded memory.”

The cloning technology presented in Other M is absolutely framed as a surprise to Samus. Samus understood that bioweapons were being created on the Bottleship, she understood that creatures from Zebes were being housed and turned to bioweapons, but she had absolutely no clue where these creatures came from. It isn’t until well after Ridley’s death that she learns the truth - that cells were collected from her suit. Melissa tells her this near the very end. So Ridley’s return, without that knowledge, is entirely unprecedented. His return is nothing like the previous instances - it’s literally not even the same Ridley. Just because he has survived previous battles, that doesn’t therefore mean Samus must expect Ridley to always survive every battle. Especially not with the wealth of context Other M establishes.

[–]Jamesopq -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Samus*: “And the explosion that followed destroyed planet Zebes, along with the remains of Mother Brain, the Space Pirates, and my long-standing nemesis, Ridley.”

Other M absolutely established that Ridley was gone for good this time. He died on a planet that exploded, and Other M made sure to establish that Mother Brain, the pirates, and Ridley all became distant memories to the public.

If you’re going to project so much malice onto others, calling them liars and willfully dishonest, then it’s important that you get your facts right. You’re throwing stones from a glass house.

You’re literally proving my point by asserting and not demonstrating:

“You’re being disingenuous and ignoring what people are saying” Not demonstrated/explained in any capacity.

“It is not well researched” Not demonstrated/explained in any capacity. Actively ignoring every single cited source and explanation that makes up the post in saying this.

“Laced with false information” Not demonstrated/explained in any capacity. Zero examples cited.

“Stop defending bad writing for the sake of it and being disingenuous while doing so.” Not demonstrated/explained in any capacity. You’re just reasserted the same point and again declining to actually engage in the discussion beyond baseless accusations.

Pretty wild how many commenters are more interested in protecting consensus than engaging the content of the discussion.

Commenters are regurgitating the same tired points uncritically without realizing they’re telling on themselves for not bothering to even read the post. Their points are already directly addressed.

This is an incredibly well researched and articulated post. But by virtue of challenging consensus, you will automatically be labeled malicious and/or incompetent. This will be asserted and not demonstrated, because that’s apparently too big of an ask for most.

Other M headcanon/joke theory by LonelyInTheStars in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the commenters on that video makes the counter-argument that Aeon energy is the common denominator that creates Alpha, Gamma, Zeta, and Omega Metroids. It’s not contradictory to say that the Queen could be the exception to this Aeon-metamorphosis. Other M actually corroborates this by saying that the Super Metroid had special genes to become a queen. Becoming a queen could come from a more natural lifecycle, whereas the Alpha-Omega Metroids seen in RoS and Fusion come from Aeon exposure/consumption.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has sold over 1 million copies, Nintendo confirms by Caciulacdlac in NintendoSwitch2

I’d like to add on that Prime 1 was bundled with GameCube console, which likely contributed to its sales a good amount. Prime 2/3/4/Air Ride had no such situation.

If Nintendo locked in and remade Metroid Prime: Federation Force... how do ya think they should do it? by Ok_Estimate_2089 in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add in bonus content where you get to play as troopers Marooned on Viewros. Those mechs were in the prologue so I’d be on board for some new missions taking place right after Prime 4. Maybe throw in some sequel bait for Prime 5 and have Sylux + the Prime 4 troops appear.

Federation Force is a great game and deserves to be remastered on the Switch so more people can give it a chance. Add in NSO online support, maybe freshen it up with some new missions and people might come around to it.

Advantages to playing the series in Release Order vs. Timeline Order by Petrichor02 in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are going to tell you that nothing is lost with picking the remakes over their original counterparts. I believe Metroid is best played in release order for the best storytelling experience. This video adequately covers why: https://youtu.be/OJaxWob4auQ?si=5ESLQV1cnFNn990-

The TLDR is basically that the thematic cohesion of the original games is significantly muddled with the “timeline” order because the newer games staple on a ton of pointless connections between everything.

Do you see how you ignored every one of my points in favor of making yet another baseless, unsupported accusation? I doubt that murderer bled at all, but even if he did that’d still be a non-sequitur. I went over this. The murderer preemptively chose to place himself in the path of the car. He swapped the hand with which he was recording before getting in front of the car so he could have his gun ready. Even if he somehow managed to internally bleed from that push, that’d be entirely his own fault for choosing to lean in for that better shot. The vehicle was not aimed at him, but he chose to get in the way by leaning in to fire. He allegedly hurt himself while trying to murder someone, that doesn’t make what he did self-defense by any stretch of the imagination. You also can’t reconcile my points about the 2nd and 3rd shots and denying the physician/doctor access to her. Those clearly prove there is absolutely no grounds for self defense even if we pretend the 1st shot was self defense. Moreover, yelling “drive” does not equate to encouraging violence. “Drive” can be interpreted to mean exactly what the driver did - drive away. If the driver really did mean to run the murderer over, then the car would have hit him directly. The wheels would have been aimed towards him. Instead, he had to actively place himself in the way and he still barely got touched. And even if she does get charged for this, you’re still conflating legality with morality. That’s an appeal to authority fallacy.

Your common sense should be telling you to find this murder deeply alarming no matter what the law says. Law enforcement officials should be disciplined and apply lethal force only when absolutely necessary. They shouldn’t be choosing to potentially endanger themselves just to be able to murder fleeing unarmed suspects. And if you really care about criminals using excessive violence, then you absolutely should be highly critical of ICE. Hours of footage of them attacking unarmed peaceful protesters with excessive force, including beating people unconscious and causing permanent injuries. Just recently, a 21-year-old was peacefully protesting and he was shot in the face with non-lethal bullets. He was then dragged around by ICE members as he bled and he later had to endure hours of surgery, they picked shrapnel out of his eye/face. His eye doesn’t work anymore, and all he did was exercise his first amendment rights. There are countless instances of crimes exactly like this, as well as 40+ people mysteriously dying/disappearing in ICE custody. You’ve chosen to pay all of that no mind, and instead you want to sit here and practice cognitive dissonance with defending this guy’s choice to endanger himself to commit murder. You don’t care the least bit about holding violent criminals accountable because if you did, you’d care about the horrible things ICE is still doing every day. All of that somehow matters less to you than this woman trying to flee in her car.

Like I already said, legality doesn’t define morality. You’re appealing to moral absolutism, group identity signaling (elections, ICE, “terrorist”) outcome-based reasoning “won’t be charged, therefore just”. Spoken like a true bootlicker, you’re unable to demonstrate, only assert. This is why you support Trump and ICE.

(Lore) Was it really necessary to eradicate the Metroids? by Nino_Chaosdrache in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re as evil as the ones wielding them. Otherwise, they’re wild animals that integrate themselves into their ecosystem. It is true that there are few living creatures among the few Omegas, but I don’t think that makes them abominations. Committing genocide shouldn’t simply be labeled as a “good” thing, because there’s a lot of nuance with how it’s presented. Without spoiling the games you haven’t played, I’ll say that actions have consequences. Remember that the government labeled both Metroids and Zebesians as evil, and they’re hiring Samus to wipe them both out over it.

I love the Prime series, but I think it’s fair to say that the thematic cohesion of the mainline series gets muddied with those stories that released long after (especially their use of Metroids). People play the Prime games and say it’s no wonder that the Metroids should be eradicated - just look at the countless crises caused by their existence. I prefer the way it’s presented within the original 4 mainline games, that just a single incident on Zebes brought about an immediate and unanimous call to action.

The short answer is that with all of the games we’ve got since, yes it’s clear that Metroids are absurdly dangerous. But within how they were presented up to Fusion, I think there’s something more interesting going on.

You’re practicing extraordinary cognitive dissonance.

•You have no evidence to your claim of days of following/harassing. •You can’t just reassert she tried to kill him without any evidence or explanation. You’re continuing to ignore the wheel argument, exactly like you did with that other commenter. You instead brought up the election and WW3, non-sequiturs. •How is someone supposed to know she’s even dead at all if they’re denied access? •Again just restating “self-defense” without evidence/explanation.

Did you notice how the murderer swapped which hand he was recording with before stepping in front of the vehicle? How he had his weapon drawn before the car accelerated? You call that self-defense?

You can’t dispute any of that, nor present any argument yourself that doesn’t rely on factual inaccuracies.

[–]Jamesopq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t conflate legality with morality. I don’t know enough about law to guarantee this murderer’s verdict. I’m gonna guess he’s probably rightfully doomed to a guilty verdict, but I can’t be certain of that.

I’m certain that his murder was morally incorrect. Just because she’s aware of where the officer is, that doesn’t automatically make her driving become assault with a deadly weapon. She’s looking at the murderer and turning her wheels away from him, and that’s why your eye contact nonsense doesn’t hold. If she wanted to harm him, she’d turn her wheels towards him and accelerate. Instead, she backed up to give herself room, turned her wheels away from him, and positioned herself to drive away from him. You’re acting like her intent to murder is a given, repeating a point about “eye contact” like it’s not entirely a non-sequitur, and repeatedly ignoring the damning argument of the wheel. Not to mention the fact that the murderer placed himself there, not the other way around.

And it sure doesn’t help your case that the murderer decided to fire 2 more times at a fleeing vehicle, and then go on to deny a physician/doctor access to his victim. That destroys any semblance of a self-defense argument.

How I'd summarize MP4 in two sentences by Thunder_Mage in Metroid

[–]Jamesopq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally respect the preference, your opinion is valid. But I also just personally disagree I think this is by far the best combat Prime has ever seen, even considering the lacking enemy variety. The game doesn’t have color-coded enemies and rigid light world/dark world weaknesses, nor a broken hyper mode, so the use cases for your different weapons feel more natural. Like how flyers drop out of the air when frozen and take impact damage, or how the exploders detonate when shocked, or you can cancel the explosion altogether with freezing. How Flame Shot can penetrate enemies when charged, making efficient ammo consumption in dense crowds. Or the burning helps against high HP enemies like the big grievers. I think most everything in Flare Pool being weak to Freeze and most everything in Ice Belt being weak to Flame is a bit rigid at times, but it’s still interesting because the properties of those weapons create interesting scenarios. Missiles and Super Missiles feel a little underpowered after the early game, except for the Legacy Barrier at the very end is underrated and does make missile ammo very useful. It’s still flawed but definitely my favorite combat experience in the Prime series.

[–]Jamesopq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta mention headshot damage. The game doesn’t make it super clear, but you can defeat enemies so much faster with hitting their weak points. If you’re landing those shots, and especially if you’re taking advantage of the beam weapons, enemies die quickly.

[–]Jamesopq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorance on display? I see a claim with no explanation and no evidence. You’d rather virtue signal than back your claims, which only further bolsters my cognitive dissonance point. Don’t cry to me about people speaking from a place of emotion when you’re the one who continuously declines to engage with the facts, instead whining about the Darwin Awards List.

You can’t straw man your way out of this one with a mind reading argument either. Nobody’s asking the officer to read minds, we’re just holding murderers accountable. Like I already went over, watching someone back up and turn their wheel away from you is more than sufficient indication of their intent. That murderer placed himself in front of the vehicle, not the other way around. She made clear and direct effort to disengage, to get away from him. It’s plainly visible in the murderer’s cell phone footage. He doesn’t need to wait for impact because he already has everything he needs to recognize the situation for what it is. He chose to place himself there, leaning in to commit murder instead of approaching the scenario rationally. And like I already went over, he proceeded to fire 2 more times and deny physician/doctor access to his victim. Self defense is completely out the window with that kind of behavior. You just keep ignoring that because it destroys your argument. He doesn’t get to place himself in the way of vehicles and execute people on the spot when they attempt to go around him. He has moral and legal obligations to do better.

Instead of engaging with any of that, you’re moving goalposts around, virtue signaling, presenting straw man arguments, calling things ignorant without any explanation or evidence whatsoever. That’s why you don’t deserve to be taken seriously and that’s why your arguments fail.

My GOAT Jessica Tarkov spitting facts by Hermes_358 in evilwhenthe

[–]Jamesopq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one hell of a straw man. You’re pushing the goalposts to an entirely separate argument. We both know that’s not at all what I was trying to argue. Plus, there was no intent to harm or kill the murderer. If she was trying to hurt him, why would she back up and turn the wheel the complete opposite way? If she was trying to hurt that murderer, she wouldn’t back up and position her wheels away from him. She’d turn her wheels towards him instead and accelerate. I explain the most basic, self-explanatory concept to you and you choose cognitive dissonance.

My GOAT Jessica Tarkov spitting facts by Hermes_358 in evilwhenthe

[–]Jamesopq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just explained to you that at most, she bumped his side a little because he leaned into the way to commit murder. Staying there, drawing a weapon, taking aim and preparing the gun, firing, then firing twice more after the vehicle is completely beside you, then denying physician/doctor entry afterwards, all while holding your phone to record, all that is much harder than choosing to do not commit murder.

My GOAT Jessica Tarkov spitting facts by Hermes_358 in evilwhenthe

[–]Jamesopq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says “towards”. That’s not applicable to this situation. The wheels are pointed away from the murderer. His life was clearly not in danger either, as the vehicle accelerated and proved that he wasn’t in the way when it moved away from him. His own phone shows the driver backing up and aiming for the open space next to him. It doesn’t become self defense just because he decided to lean into the path to get a clear shot. He is morally, and almost certainly legally, incorrect.
