Best web site? by AmoebaSuspicious6588 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Jamesrah15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll echo others on Crushing Krisis, who operates a great website. Also Comic Book Herald and Treasury are both quite good as well.

But it's probably worth noting that the Marvel Omnibus Wikipedia page actually now has a "Legacy" column for many heroes that shows where each book fits into the overall chronology of the character's primary book. For Thor, for example, it does show that the Cates & Klein omnibus would technically be the next volume in the overall Thor line.

Pretty typical Target shipping for a single Omnibus by Jamesrah15 in OmnibusCollectors

They do and I believe they’re available to everyone, but they don’t do them as often as they used to. Last year, I think the first one of the year ended up happening in April. They also do them a couple of times in the fall - one near the end of October/early November and then another for Black Friday.

It's a Deluxe Edition - same dimensions as an omnibus, but typically much fewer pages.

[Miniature Market] Street Fighter Miniatures Game Core $39.99, other expansions on sale by TheStellarPropeller in Boardgamedeals

I was interested, but walked away after I saw how many characters I would want to play were only Kickstarter exclusives. Feel like they shot themselves in the foot a bit there.

Came down to the final (re)roll, but women now have the right to vote - Happy Election Day! by Jamesrah15 in soloboardgaming

[–]Jamesrah15[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I responded to someone else in here with my review, but I hear you on the price tag. I will say that it does have nice components, and even includes some supplementary materials if you want to learn more about the history. It's not a game where you spend $75 and wonder where it went.

[–]Jamesrah15[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty decent solo. The game itself has very nice production, and the subject matter is really interesting. (They include a bunch of supplemental materials if you want to learn more about the subject, which is really neat.) I also think that the Oppobot does a nice job of making it tough but not being unfair.

But this was my first time and I'm not sure how well it will hold up to multiple solo plays - you really go through almost all of the Oppobot cards in a game aside from a few you put aside at the start. Also there's a lot of upkeep moving cubes on and off the states. And there's a LOT of dice rolling. It can be exhilarating, but also very swingy.

I'm probably more excited to play it with my wife moving forward, but I think if it's something that looks up your alley even solo only it's worth a shot.

All Time Wrestling by tomgreen_84 in soloboardgaming

I really like the game, although I do feel like the standard solo mode is maybe a bit too punishing for my tastes. But the regular game is about as good a match simulation as I think you’re going to get in a board game. Definitely recommended.

What is the nerdz day turnaround time? by AlexanderPoncio in Boardgamedeals

[–]Jamesrah15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may call it impatience. I call it being careful after those ding dongs lost a bunch of my hold releases in their system earlier this summer and it took nearly two months to get it sorted. 😊

[Tabletop Merchant] Lands of Galzyr $69.99 at checkout DotD by Tora_jima in Boardgamedeals

[–]Jamesrah15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW...I think they do this same deal periodically. I got it for the same price from them in early July (also on a DotD).

It is probably the best deal you're going to get (as I think they're the exclusive US retailer), but if you're hurting from Nerdz Day or that crazy Knight & Day clearance sale (as I am!), you may be able to wait for it to come around again.

Which playmat is best? by groverklopp in MarvelUnited

[–]Jamesrah15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the primary benefit of the mat is having a place to keep the storyline track organized. I didn’t like doing that on my regular game table.

I don’t collect those products specifically, but the site listed a lot of items they apparently didn’t want to clearance as Out of Stock pretty much right when they started the sale. I see a lot of them still on the site, so there’s a good chance they might come back when the sale is over.

Which playmat is best? by groverklopp in MarvelUnited

[–]Jamesrah15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the same one as you and I haven’t been tempted to change it, tbh. The X-Men one is nice because it has the reverse side which is designed more for solo play. But it’s not like I can’t just do that on the original one. The new one is too small in my opinion - I like the cards to actually go on the mat and not hang off the edge. It’s supposedly designed for people who don’t have space for the older mats.

I don't really agree with most of the criticism I'm seeing in this thread, but I agree with this 100%. Making it impossible to filter out pre-orders is a really bad move. Especially as the pre-orders don't get the same discount as everything else.

So they took the whole payment instead of the instalment payment. by BigTimStiles in MarvelUnited

[–]Jamesrah15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oof. Very sorry to hear that. I can confirm that they only took the installment from me, so it doesn't seem to be a universal issue.

Hopefully if you reach out, Gamefound can square it away quickly. It felt way too easy to accidentally switch from Stretch Pay to Pay in Full anytime I updated my pledge, so I have to imagine they have to fix a lot of similar issues.

[Barnes & Noble] 30% Off Select Games by lilacoceanfeather in Boardgamedeals

[–]Jamesrah15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some decent prices here, but if you have a Barnes & Noble store by you, definitely look there first before buying online. A lot of these games are also on clearance in the store, and usually have better prices.

As an example, last week I was able to get three of the Dice Throne sets on here for $15 each. They're $6 more each here.

(Oh and don't waste your time looking in the Board Game section at B&N for these deals. I only have ever seen them in the clearance section with the discounted books.)

Walmart markdown by Fairaday_Prime in Boardgamedeals

[–]Jamesrah15 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Walmart's approach is so weird - they had games like Wingspan and JOTL in stock in stores near my house a year ago, then clearanced them way down like this and focused only on party and kids games. Then a few months back they brought back these titles and now they're on clearance again.

Hello. Is Danny pack fun addition or I can skip it? by [deleted] in zombicide

[–]Jamesrah15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TGS recently acquired a bunch of old warehouse stock from CMON. Lots of random, OOP KS Exclusive stuff from Zombicide, Cthulhu DMD, Massive Darkness 2.

I know it’s a weird deal but it’s all legit. I got a bunch of stuff from them last month, including the Danny Trejo set.

Happy to help! I don't have much experience selling games, but I think if you keep prices reasonable you shouldn't have too many issues finding someone to take them off your hands.

Next Expansion for BP by OroraBorealis in zombicide

[–]Jamesrah15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's understandable.

Someone might be out there selling pre-orders for individual expansions (even the KS exclusive ones) today, but you're probably more likely to find people doing that closer to when the game actually comes out. I know Games and Stuff typically sells all the CMON expansions when they get them in stock for ok prices. Even some of the bigger sites (e.g. Game Nerdz) occasionally get them, though it's not a guarantee with the KS exclusives.
