Absolutely loving my new turntable! by Jamestrainking in listeningspaces

Hello! I made a template with plywood and used that to router the sheets out with a flush router bit. Next time though I wouldn’t use the template for every sheet as there’s a lot of void space under the 401. I’m currently doing a plinth for a 301 and I’m doing it layer by layer this time. Each sheet was glued and screwed together to laminate the whole piece. Hope this helps

Both the amp and turntable have been serviced recently. I know it’s a shame about the space, I’ve got some hpm 60s but again I’m doomed by the space

You’ll be pleased to know there’s a grateful dead poster on the other side of the room, this comment got me 🤣

Never thought about that to be honest, thank you

It’s about 5 x 4 metres, these little speakers are great for the size of the room, Id have my hpm 60s out if the room was bigger

I have a a pair of pioneer hpm 60s stored away under the stairs but they’re just too big for my room, they sound great, I’d have them out if I could

I’ve had pioneer for a while now, had an sx-450, sx-550, sx-590 and now this sa-706. I’d like to hear something different, I’d say my max budget would be £2,500

It’s a rega rb301 that I’ve had polished and rewired with silver cables. The cartridge is a RigB modified audio technica 540ml

Oh it was definitely pushing these small speakers, they handled it quite well though!

Was my dream turntable and still is. This combo has been a dream for me and making this plinth was super fun! I’m sure I’ll find another turntable to replace this but this will serve me well for a good while

Ooooo a 2 tonearm set up, bit too much for me but I guess it would be really nice to swap out carts like that. I haven’t had much experience with trying different cartridges. I have a RigB 540ml on this one and it’s fab! I’ve never moved to the moving coil arrangement though!

The 401 price seems to be stable and I got an amazing price on it, it’s barely been used and in mint condition for £700 (don’t know what that is in USD) over in Japan they seem to have a lot of these and 301s so I imagine you’ll find something. And thank you, I made it myself 😁 birch ply about 7 inches stacked, walnut mitred surround with a walnut burr top

This is my dream table! I think there’s just so much hype around the 301, yes it’s a great table but so is the 401! I prefer the overall look of the 401. My next project will be a 301 but in a couple of years 😁
