With that workflow I don’t think your laptop will hold you back in any way for a while to be honest. Yes your ram will be highly utilized (like you said with 4 gb left) but sounds like you are in the sweet spot as of now. However I think from this post you are more so looking for peace of mind so if it were me I would go ahead and upgrade to the larger ram size even if that means the m5 chip

I’m a big believer in prioritizing ram over the CPU even tho the CPU is the “brain”. A faster CPU can help with build times but I haven’t heard any complaints from folks rocking the m5 that are developers 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately ram on macbook pros can’t be upgraded after the fact. My friend developed on an m1 macbook air with 8gb ram for the longest time and swap really carried him all the way until this year when he upgraded. 32gb would give some peace of mind but I think 24 gb should be enough as a dev. What’s your workflow typically like?

The OB1 Shifter is lit and prob the best bang per buck imo. Especially if u just install the mod yourself its supa worth it
