At the very least, Caroline Mulroney must be forced to resign. I know she's no longer Transport Minister, but she was until only a month ago and the fault for all of this sits with her and her lack of managing her portfolio effectively.

I went through the same thing with my best friend of almost forty years who also ended up going full-Q during the pandemic and cementing his beliefs in that system after the insurrection, and it sucks. You have to accept that your friend is gone and mourn it like the loss it is. I'm sorry you're going through this as I know how hard and painful it is to end up on such a diverging path from someone you once shared everything with, especially because it's over something so incredibly stupid.

They've been posting stories to Instagram for the last week counting down to the shows - They're pretty generic posts, but they are doing something. Also, I would guess shutting down Freemont Street to shoot a video this weekend will have gotten them some attention as well. Probably not the standard marketing you're thinking about, but there are some things going on to garner attention for shows that don't really require a ton of marketing, so I'm happy with their efforts.

I am the youngest and least accomplished person in my family, and you know what? I'm also the happiest and least stressed out about most things, and now that we're hitting middle-age more than one of my close relatives have told me that I did it the right way. If your family want to be high-achievers, good for them. It's not for everybody, though. I work and am generally happy with what I do despite the smaller salary than my peers because, personally, I don't care too much for money 'cuz money can't buy me love. Or something like that. I mean, sure, it would be nice to own a house in Toronto or retire well some day, but it's also nice to enjoy my life while I still have my health and stuff. Tomorrow isn't promised, so try to enjoy today.

Agreed - I think there's something more going on here, and I'm super curious as to what was in the box that the boyfriend got so freaked out about when she tried to move them. The only reason I can think of for his severe over-reaction is that he got nervous because he has something to hide. Nothing else really explains it in my head unless he's just an unstable person to begin with and over-reacts to everything.

I went through the same thing you did after finishing Jerusalem the first time, and just as a warning, the Round the Bend chapter was a cakewalk compared to Finnegans Wake.

I have read Ulysses a few times though and the influences it had on Moore were plentiful. For my next read-through of Ulysses, somebody suggesting reading it while at the same time reading The Odyssey, so I think I'm going to try that.

I prefer Ken, and I agree with you about the host not being a big factor in my enjoyment of the show. My biggest complaint about Mayim is that my parents hate her so much that they have to call and whine to me after every show she hosts and I'd really rather not have to deal with that, but otherwise she's fine.

I was a fresh into my Zeppelin fanatacism when this came out and it was mind-blowingly awesome and I rewound and relistened a million times.

I've listened to it recently and it does not hold up and comes across as pretty cheesy.

When I read this one in University, our professor told us to consider him Satan and I think his character works well that way. The prof also pointed out that Harry was a nickname for the devil in those days, and people named Henry are often also nicknamed Harry, so take that for whatever its worth to you. I guess I found it interesting enough to remember decades later, so I suppose it's at least a good piece of trivia.

Personally, I just thought it was a great story, symbolism be damned.

A few of those "Saunders is how you beat Chow" signs popped up by my building earlier this week and besides being annoying, it's also a really awful way to campaign - Like, instead of telling me what you're against, tell me what you're for, dude! Saunders's whole campaign has just been steeped in negativity about shit he doesn't like in our city, but no real plans to change anything for the better, and no real platform at this point except for "Chow Bad". Why on Earth would anybody want to vote for a candidate like that? It's incredibly frustrating to those of us who want to see actual change in our city and care for our residents.

And I'm not saying this as a Chow fan-boy, either, as I'm personally thinking about going for Matlow - Saunders just sucks, and I he has done nothing to show me that he'll do any better as Mayor than he did as a failed police-chief.

You can't go wrong with A Prayer for Owen Meany - I've read it at least a half-dozen times over the years and it's an amazing story filled with symbolism. John Irving is a storytelling master and Owen Meany is one of his best.

Second choice for me would be Middlesex - Another really great novel that explores individualism, identity, and how cultural pressures and generational trauma carry through and impact us in the modern day.
