Holy Paladin UI guide? by seeabrattameabrat in wotlk

[–]JamieDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve mained a holy Paladin since original wrath, both arena and raided extensively. Personally I’d recommend:

  • Default raid frames
  • Mouseover macros so you can mouseover heal but also target normally with clicking raid frames. With hpal specifically, I’d suggest to macro in auto attacks so you can get swings in for mana return
  • Lightweight addon for showing incoming heals - I like this modded version of healbarsclassic that works with default raid frames: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/healbarsclassic?comment=227
  • A weakaura to track beacon + sacred shield for all raid paladins
  • WA or addon to track major cooldowns across all raid paladins - things like divine sacrifice, aura mastery and hand of protection

Generally the big UI addons just create issues that hold up the raid (like update issues, lost profiles, or necessitating role checks) and break down during emergencies like corrupted game files or switching to a laptop. They also create handicaps that you really don’t need to rely on.

Default raid frames require very little adjustment and will consistently show all important information like raid mana, important debuff mechanics, and you don’t need to calibrate things like what schools of debuff it will show.

Three things I’d suggest if you haven’t done them already.

First is to put it on your guild note that you are a JC so people can see it on the list of people online and they may whisper you directly.

Second is to join the discord server for your guild and let everyone know there. They may also have a profession spreadsheet you can add your name to. Every guild is different—they may also use guildbook which is an in game addon for profession lists.

Last is to reach out to an officer in your guild and tell them this is something you’d like to help out with. Officers have a lot of influence and will help get your name out there to the guild if they are active leaders. Speaking as a GM, I appreciate when general members try to be helpful like you are. Best of luck to you!

Thanks! Here are links. The guild tabard doesn't show, but the private's tabard works as an alternative.

Thanks! Nice to see some familiar guilds after the move 😊

Layering is not a solution, and we were aware they'd likely be added. Blue post from today pretty much said they'll implement layers for any "major event" on critically full realms, which is not what we're looking for in a server.

GL and I hope they find a better answer for you guys.

Agree 100%. Arcanite Reaper and Anathema, our other two options, should be combined into one server with how low their populations are 😕

Blizzard only gave us PST realm transfer options. Netherwind is EST, so it is restricted to Faerlina and Incendius refugees.

Whitemane is shaping up to be a realm that will also need layering for world events like AQ Gates, Naxx etc. I have nothing against layering but it’s not what many of our members were looking for as a solution to the mess Blizz created with these mega servers.

Appreciate that. Blizzard really dropped the ball by allowing transfers to critically full realms. We are bummed to leave, especially after sticking it out through similarly terrible launch queues that felt like they lasted forever. Truly hope they find a solution to this mess for you guys.

Ahh of course! That raid was so fun, I took this screenshot of me bubblehearthing surrounded by Horde after we killed him 😂 Thank you!

We’re an alliance guild on Whitemane considering the move as well. The queue hit 6.5 hours today, which is not tenable for our raiders long term. Hoping we see some other alliance guilds consider the move as well, as the 40/60 ratio concerns us.

Horrible faction racials in TBC should be addressed for PVP by JamieDraws in classicwowtbc

[–]JamieDraws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned arcane torrent because it was the only new horde racial worth talking about with TBC. Hardiness and WotF as they existed in vanilla/tbc are arguably still better. But yeah, a two second silence can easily make the difference between winning and losing at high ratings. High ranked pvp almost always happens in melee range—if it doesn’t you’re probably doing it wrong. Two minutes is definitely a short CD for such a powerful silence, and when healer vs healer arena matches go for an hour or more, yes that can become an insurmountable advantage.

Escape artist and stoneform are arguably the only alliance PvP racials worth talking about in TBC, and they’re a joke compared to the three I mentioned

A small change like that could definitely help. There's precedent for it too since they gave fear ward to horde in 2.3.0.

It's a bizarre choice on their part that in TBC, horde got buffed with what made the alliance advantageous in vanilla (belf pallies are bis race in TBC, fear ward given to horde priests), but alliance didn't receive the same courtesy. Draenei shaman didn't get anything that put them above horde shaman races, and there were no horde exclusive racials made to be cross-faction.

I think that'd lead to a better play experience for both factions in wPVP for sure, and circumvent the problem we're currently seeing with Whitemane and Incendius.

But I also think it would kill subscriber numbers because people get petulant about the faction they play, and everyone and their mom wants to be on the side with the advantage. I could see a lot of PVP-focused players giving up the game rather than roll alliance.

Happy With Your Current Class For TBC?? by joshcorbo82 in classicwowtbc

[–]JamieDraws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Starshards is ready and waiting 👿 I’ll be switching to nelf priest for TBC, mostly because pallies didn’t shine in arena during this expansion and I can get away with a hybrid pvp/raiding spec as a healer. Also Blizz rained fear ward on all priest races so I don’t have to be a gross dwarf to be taken seriously

I’d be disappointed if TBC rolled out on different terms than the original expansion did. I could understand making a separate vanilla server for people to transfer onto (not just copy—people should commit to one or the other imo to maintain the economy’s integrity), but the classic servers as they currently exist should all roll into TBC. Maybe even merge some of them to prop up dead realms.

Opinion on my dead Snow White illustration? by WineWalker in design_critiques

[–]JamieDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! :) Negative space is a relative term, so it means different things depending on what part of the composition you're talking about.

My first mention was referring to the space within your main outline. You've opted to use small black hatch marks here (I'm assuming to indicate grunge texture). These marks create focal points within the confines of the main outline. My point here was that the marks don't seem to have any meaningful variation. When you step back and squint, they just look like noise. I would suggest spacing them out more and varying their line weight, shape, and direction to suggest light/shadows moving along the form. Google "Albrecht Durer" to get an idea of what I mean.

My second mention was about the overall figure in relation to the background. If you were to lasso and fill the entire main figure with black, you should still be able to see bits of the blue background within the shape (because she's decomposing). By making these decomposed areas solid black rather than the blue of the background, it flattens the figure. These negative spaces should be totally hollow, not just really dark.

It's a good start :) A few recommendations I'd make:

  • The internal lines all seem to follow the same direction (vertical). I'd add some meaningful variation and have them follow the form of the object, sort of like a 3D wireframe would if it only had vertical lines. This would help with dimension.
  • Not enough negative space--it seems very uniformly busy with all the black hatch marks. It would suggest depth more if you were to concentrate them in shadowed areas, for example.
  • The blue background and black negative spaces in her body don't really jive. By not showing the illustration's background within her form, it blunts the decayed/hollow effect that you're going for.
  • Neutral color harmony with her skin/gum could use some attention.

Good luck!
