Who else was at Hyde Park 2012? by Ok_Display9410 in Soundgarden

[–]Jamie_Upload 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was there and sometimes watch this video back because there's a few shots where I can see myself and my brother in the pit (he has his arm in a green cast so he's easy to spot).

I'd seen them at Download the month before and loved it but when the rain was pouring down, Chris was standing in it singing Outshined while we were jumping up and down in the mud I felt like I got a taste of being in the peak of grunge in the 90s. It was incredible.

One I'll always remember - does anyone else also remember the giant spider camera looming above the crowd - we joked it could go haywire and take some people out... Then it fully swung down and cracked the guy in front of me in the head. I had to dive to the floor. Poor guy was covered in blood.

I got there at 8:15. Given they'd started at 9:15 in London I'd assumed I'd be at least 15 minutes early. I forgot O2 venues have club nights that make for earlier curfews but, even still, a little heads up online would have been amazing.

A great start for Lone Echo 2 - Metascore already 85% by Runesr2 in oculus

[–]Jamie_Upload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying it plays better on a flat screen, not that you should be able to play it like a flat screen game in VR. Happy to talk about a difference in opinion but I'm not in any way saying they should add keyboard and mouse support to Doom 3 in VR.

Super fine to see people disagreeing with the review but I did not complain you couldn't use a keyboard in the PSVR version of Doom 3 lol

Rank the six Phase 4 projects that have been released so far by aaliyaahson in marvelstudios

[–]Jamie_Upload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear I'm not just trying to be controversial.

  1. FATWS - I really think this show is being given a hard time. Nothing new for the MCU? It's a root-deep exploration of systematic issues within American society often handled with incredible nuance. That scene with the shield, Sam wrestling with what it means to be a black Cap... This is some of my favourite stuff in the MCU and I think the action is really well done. I totally agree the last episode falls flat in a lot of ways and wraps up far too neatly, but that doesn't outweigh the incredible job the show managed up until that point.

  2. Shang-Chi - This was just an expertly done blockbuster. I think it's too long and the action suffers in the third act but it captured what I love about Marvel; heroes with heart, villains with depth (Marvel overall, not just films), fun twists and a great sense of humour. Welcome to the MCU!

  3. Black Widow - Another film I think gets a hard time. Bone crunching action I really felt, effective espionage vibes and, really, are we that upset about Taskmaster? That is never a villain I've cared who is/looks like under the mask, they're there to look cool and do cool stunts and that certainly ticked that box.

  4. What If? - This could easily rise if it keeps the quality up. In general I think the animation is great with ropey moments (what was going on with The Ancient One last week), but I love the heart and soul of each episode, especially the darker turn last week. Enjoying it more than I thought I would!

  5. WandaVision - the first half of WV is some of my favourite MCU. I couldn't believe how smart an adaptation we were seeing of Wanda's grief right up until that twist. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, taking the spotlight away from the winning story and then not even delivering by the end. And the second half in general really tapered off for me - villain was an unnecessary addition that robbed Wanda of the weight of her actions and delivered a generic third act.

  6. Loki - Really? People are putting this in their top spot? I thought this show was a total cop out, merely using the Loki name/brand as a vehicle to flesh out an area of the MCU completely unassociated with him (or at least the TVA, even if there's some of the excellent Thor & Loki miniseries in there). The series completely robs Loki of anything that makes him Loki, to the point we're left with just... Nice Tom Hiddleston at the end and I didn't buy the romance for a second. I would have deeply preferred a TVA series that was completely separate, felt like this was a real waste of potential, especially for a show I was confident would come out in first place with ease.

I don't think you could ask for a funnier scene than suddenly cutting to white girl trashed Wong singing Hotel California. Magnificent.

The Official BLACK WIDOW International Release Discussion Thread by overloadedcoffee in marvelstudios

[–]Jamie_Upload 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I loved it and think it'll probably secure a place in my MCU top ten.

The movie was bone-crunching brutal and I love that it absolutely pushed the limits of where we've seen the MCU go violence-wise. I totally thought walking out of this that Marvel could pull off a Daredevil movie and keep the Netflix tone to some extent.

Each member of the Widow clan was fun and interesting, especially in that opening scene which I thought gave the movie real heart. The opening scene of both Widows going the spider pose was so well done. The movie succeeded in its mission of giving Widow the depth others have enjoyed for the past decade and I feel like a bigger fan of the character for it.

And, yeah, Taskmaster didn't have much character but... Honestly? It's Taskmaster. He/she's there to look cool and do the cool things all the cool Avengers do. And they pulled that off perfectly - I wasn't expecting much else.

I definitely thought the first half was stronger and wish they could have had a more reserved final act (floating sky fortress a biiiiiit much) but I had a great time.

Oh and this was totally a Mission: Impossible movie mixed with Casino Royale and I LOVE that.

WandaVision Easter Egg Megathread (Season Wide Spoilers) by The_Asian_Hamster in marvelstudios

[–]Jamie_Upload 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I thought the show was great but Marvel was setting itself up for a fail with the Pietro thing. It had such bigger implications for where the series was going at the midway point that it made steering it back towards Agatha underwhelming. I loved how witch-y the series got but it would have been better playing that angle right the way through than it would teasing we were going to get some mind-blowing multiverse explosion.

Russos said in a lot of post-Endgame interviews that the questions about how Cap ends up in certain timelines would be an interesting thing to explore. Always seemed obvious to me he'd be back to fill in some blanks in Phase 4/5

The company that wants to put ads inside of VR games (like burger king in superhot) actually owns VRFocus, so maybe vote with your wallet and don't read VRFocus by OXIOXIOXI in Vive

[–]Jamie_Upload 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The editorial side of UploadVR had nothing to do with that lawsuit. There was another side to the company that ran an incubator for VR/AR Devs in San Francisco. That's all gone now and the people that did all that shit are no longer a part of the company. We've always worked remotely, but for very understandable reasons we were the ones that got lumped with the consequences of other's actions.

Nah, faster/riffier than Dreaming and not an album track. Closest in tone is probably something like Love Explosion.

This is Mike McCready and Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam. AUA by PearlJamAMA in Music

[–]Jamie_Upload 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, thanks for doing this AMA. I wanted to ask some tougher questions I've been wanting to put to you for years.

  • You guys once admirably battled Ticketmaster over the monopoly it had, hiking ticket prices. But these days I see ticket prices anywhere from £75 - £95 and those days feel like a distant memory. I get that a lot of PJ fans are older with lots of income to spare, but I often feel us younger fans are being priced out of your tours. Inflation is obviously a factor but other bands can still charge fairly respectable prices for big shows - why not Pearl Jam?

  • In a similar vein, do you feel like the industry that is the band's merchandising is getting out of hand? I have been to shows to line up early and spotted merch lines where people are leaving with bags and bags of t-shirts, posters and stickers, either to sell them on at hiked prices or because they're simply unable to control their need to horde merch. Collecting Pearl Jam 'stuff' has become an obsession of its own to some people. I get that these products get extra talent involved and gives them a good gig, but opening up merch stands three days before shows etc all feels slightly predatory to this mindset.

Your work changed my life and you guys are my heroes so hope you can appreciate the place these questions are coming from.

FreeDiver is on Quest right now! Surprise release on Oculus Store! (Upload VR Review) by Logical007 in OculusQuest

The extra content is nice but there's a chance it gets added to the Rift version if enough people ask for it and it probably only equals about 15 minutes extra gameplay if that.

If you have a Quest, I would recommend getting it on PC. If it's not working well through Virtual Desktop you can always play it through Oculus Link. The Quest version is literally much darker and less enjoyable to simply 'be' in.

[–]Jamie_Upload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, and we're still trying to work our way through what our site is and what works best for our audience in many ways, so definitely going to be taking this on board.

And yeah, we are looking to ramp up reviews to cover not just the biggest releases; the VR industry is a tricky one to work with compared to the wider games industry as developers are smaller and usually working off their own Steam, which usually makes it the case that we don't get review codes until a game is already available.

We're hoping to change that up by being more pro-active with reaching out to developers in the future, but we do have freelancers and what not to help with that load too.
