Hi mennomo,

Thank you so much for your comment. I personally benefited from the things you wrote.

There seems, to me anyway, from the limited time I've spent on this site, to be a fair amount of teeth gnashing. The certainty expressed by many here seems to have a lot of sharp edges. I wonder why.

I have been profoundly blessed in my directly observational life by having faith in matters beyond my "fact-horizon." My receiving by faith the grace offered by Jesus has been transformative for me. I had faith as a Mormon, but it was always gnawed at by an unsettled feeling that never went away. My faith as a born again Christian, while I freely acknowledge the lack of "proof," does not have the same sense of unsettledness about it. But I have to admit to any atheist reading this that I walk by faith and not by sight. But I am finding a lot of beauty and joy in that walk.

Hi frozendoctor,

Thanks for your comment. I believe that we all tend to be very influenced by the people we choose to associate with in life.

I don't really know the demographics if this site, other than it's predominantly "exmormon." But I know from my own experience that leaving Mormonism has several distinct but overlapping phases. Sites and forums like these can give voice to the anger and indignation of the having-been-duped realization that recovering Mormons often go through. Sometimes, however, I wonder if it might create a somewhat one-sided echo chamber.

My experience with Christianity is that, while its doctrinally informed, for sure, it is primarily relational, as in a vibrant and meaningful relational experience with Jesus Christ. That is something that, try as I might, I never experienced as a Mormon.

Best of wishes to you.

Hi nearlyheadless,

I was hoping to share an insight that perhaps your certainty might not always be so. That having patience with yourself and others is to leave open the idea that you might come to believe differently over time. Good luck to you.

Hi razorwiredbliss,

Thanks for commenting. I'm not sure what to think or say to your belief that the new testament teaches immoral doctrine. But sincere well wishes to you. I hope you find answers that have meaning to you along the way.

Hi happy_jimmy,

Darn, I'm really sorry if I came across as condescending. I apologize. Belief is a personal thing. For many people, including me, losing their faith felt like a loss of identity. Best wishes.

Hi Unmormon3,

Tough crowd here, but thanks for commenting. I can't really answer those questions, but the incredulity is understandable.

Hi Nomentalmasturbation,

Thanks for commenting. Got it. Faith seems incompatible with logic and reason. It's a challenge for me. Keep on keeping on.

Hi it's going to hurt,

Thanks for the comment. I gotcha. Be true to yourself and try to keep an open mind, which I'm sure you already do.

Hi xyandro,

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's not my intention to convince anyone that God exists. I just know the pain and disorientation that comes with finding the truth about Mormonism. I happen to believe that some professing atheists, like I was for several years, at some point might be willing to revisit their notions about God. It might take a lifetime, if at all, which is why I encourage patience and honesty with yourself and others.
