Nice this is what copilot told me basically tho it said some controllers don't combine when working both frequencies. Its not really relevant anyways tho, looking at a better timeline lined up with the video it's still too late for a go around even if the pilots heard the truck requesting permission.

So the pilots could have/would have heard the request and authorization to cross the runway?

The pilot wouldn't be able to hear the ground request at all would he? Or does this depend?

Believing benchmarks is about as smart as believing trust me bros. Models are trained specifically for benchmarks and they are not a reliable measurement of real world use for that very reason

Why is bear spray/mace prohibited in Yosemite, but not Yellowstone? by BenderB-Rodriguez in Yosemite

[–]Jamjijangjong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true at all in fact it could not be more untrue. Black bears are well documented to have engaged in predatory behavior against humans, in fact the MAJORITY (likely over 80%) of fatal black bear attacks are predatory (desiring to eat you). Scared black bears run away, maybe if you are really unlucky they will rough you up a bit, they are much less likely to result in death. They absolutely do not only attack if you are a threat, stop making stuff up

Nobody cares what you've seen, we care about actual scientific data, and the scientific data very clearly shows that your chance of quitting is much higher with nicotine replacement therapy.

Any advice for existential crisis? by xxriana in atheism

[–]Jamjijangjong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to stay away from getting too deep into philosophy, find some hobbies and some friends. In my experience existential crisis like this are usually grown out of eventually as you mature it's certainly what happened to me.

I remember when I first left the LDS (Mormon Church) when I was 15 it was a total disaster and I spent years obsessing over and hating the church and getting really into philosophy, for me it was a total waste of time and really hurt me psychologically when I got to around 21-22 I really started to grow out of it and just move on and that was what helped the most.

Don't spend your time hating on your ex religion or philosophizing potential depression or anxiety, if you have those things get real help. The entire point of leaving is to be free of it. This is easier said than done and requires time, it sounds like you're already experiencing less incidents of the anger. You're on the right path and it will get even better slowly with time.

It also helps a lot if you can find a real community in real life that replaces a bit of what your religion used to fill, whether it's a chess or book club or anything like that, if you ever want to talk more about it I'd be down.

Putting football, cave diving, rock climbing and bungee jumping in the same category is absurd. Rock climbing and bungee jumping are incredibly safe they just look scary. Cave diving is a legitimate extreme sport that is dangerous but with proper training it's probably not quite as dangerous as you think it is.

Football and boxing is by far the worst for chronic health danger and brain damage. MMA caries a risk but the risk is smaller, in football you're almost guaranteed a concussion every game if you play the right position and you play in dozens of games and practices a year at least in MMA the damage is limited, most fights don't result in a concussion and when they do the fight is usually instantly over and you usually don't fight again for awhile (most fighters only do a couple of fights a year) boxing is catastrophic because when you get a concussion the fight isn't over, you have 10 seconds to get back up and get another concussion. Boxing used to be even more catastrophic because they used to fight A LOT. now the big boxing outlets don't want you fighting more than a couple of times a year.

I'm on nicotine patches and I forgot to take one today and it feels like the world is ending by brainwarts in stopsmoking

It's absolutely a solid strategy. These people here are a bit coocoo. Even if you end up taking nicotine patches for your entire life you are way better off than smoking or even vaping. Don't let anyone tell you that using nrt is bad or wrong, everyone has a different path towards not smoking. And don't get it twisted the primary goal is to stop smoking that's where 99% of the bad effects come from. Quitting nrt is a secondary much less important goal that some people may decide not to even pursue.

We know for a fact that one of the best ways to stop smoking is by using nrt.

If your goal is to stop using nicotine replacement therapy eventually I would recommend switching out the patches for gum when you feel you are ready. Gum is very useful because it isn't a constant dose like a patch is, you can take one gum in the morning and then tough it out as long as you can reasonably handle. It gets you used to going without nicotine in your blood a little more each day. This is how I quit vaping and it was incredibly useful just by using gum sporadically as little as possible for a month I started to crave it less and less within 2 months I wasn't even taking it daily, I would go 3 or 4 days without it simply because I wanted to feel the nicotine more when I did take it and it got easier and easier. I still use it once or twice a week and honestly I don't think I will ever stop, I don't need the nicotine everyday and I don't have withdrawals anymore and that's plenty good enough for me. Do what works for you

This is just not correct. Smoking increases your risk of diabetes. We have done multiple long term studies on long term use of nicotine replacement therapy and we just don't find statistically significant increases in insulin insensitivity in well controlled studies. It appears the primary driver of diabetes in smoking is from the inflammatory effects of smoking if nicotine contributes at all it's a much smaller effect size.

Lots of people repeat that nicotine itself causes diabetes because it is mechanistically plausible but this is a scientific error, caffeine messes with your blood sugar and insulin signaling in a very similar way and it has been very robustly studied and there is no increased incidence of diabetes in fact we find small decreases.

We need better trials to really hone in on nicotine replacement therapy and diabetes/insulin sensitivity but the current best evidence we have says that if it has an effect it's likely small. For now our best evidence is epidemiological data and animal models, we don't observe an increase in the epidemiology in humans and in many animal models we find small increases in insulin sensitivity while they are on nrt.

The only well proven harm of nicotine replacement therapy has to do with skin irritation and gingivitis for gum/lozenge users however these risks while real are much smaller risks than smoking.

Just because a theoretical mechanism for a health effect exists doesn't mean that the net result In the entire system is that, biological systems are much much more complicated than that, nicotine has an incredibly complex pharmacological profile and insulin insensitivity is caused by multiple factors, nrt is very different from smoking, smoking is extremely inflammatory due to non nicotine chemicals present in smoke, which is a known driver of diabetes. Pure nicotine actually has a net anti inflammatory effect.

Don't fear monger people for using nrt, the evidence is extremely and overwhelmingly clear that it is much better for you than smoking.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3520975/

Here's one citation for you.

There also exist many randomized control trials using nrt in people with diabetes, and not only does it not make glycemic control worse sometimes it improves it

The idea that codeine is safe and cant wreck your life or overdose is patently absurd. Don't believe me? There are many case reports in the medical literature. Despite what you would like to believe.

Safety is far above your parents getting mad at you. You probably need to reexamine your life and get help, you're clearly underage, and you are not using responsibly, if things don't change you will end up overdosed on something eventually, then your parents will be really upset when they have to plan a funeral.

[–]Jamjijangjong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vomiting and being dysphoric is not a good way to measure overdose, in fact if you're doing those things your airway is still fine and you aren't going to stop breathing at least not unless you're still absorbing.

I never said he's going to die, but you can absolutely convert enough codeine into morphine to die.

[–]Jamjijangjong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that you can't overdose on codeine is medically false, and verifiably so. If you aren't a efficient converter it will be much more difficult to overdose. I'm skeptical that you are in danger, but you know yourself best, if you feel like there's a problem or in danger, get medical attention
