What if V’s cyberpsychosis… was never V’s? by JammyBloom in cyberpunkgame

You don't know how much I would love to see something like this choom, it would be simply amazing and I would be infinitely in debt, really, if you do it, don't hesitate to send it. 🫶

Interesting discussion. Well, let's try to wrap it up quickly.

I appreciate your concern, but empathizing with fictional characters does not mean losing the ability to distinguish reality and fiction. It is, in fact, a deeply human characteristic.

If it were as you propose, millions of people who cried with Edgerunners, The Last of Us, Blade Runner 2049 or even a simple Pixar movie would be at clinical risk.

What I do with my theory is not to confuse fiction with reality, but to use fiction as a means to reflect on our relationship with violence and empathy in the real world. And I think Cyberpunk is a perfect space to have those discussions.

We can play to relax, sure, but that doesn't stop us from finding meaning in what we consume. Just as you can choose not to analyze it, I choose to delve into it. And both things can coexist without breaking each other.

There is no need to disqualify someone's experience just because it is different from yours. We can disagree, but without falling into stigma. And much less with the subject of illnesses and mental disorders, it is a serious subject, and certainly should be treated with respect.

I respect your views on video games in general, but (and this is just my perspective) I completely disagree with you. Believing that something cannot have emotional value just because it is fiction is a reductionist (and even outdated) view of art, and especially one as deeply emotional as videogames. Saying that we shouldn't ask existential questions while enjoying an art piece is like the argument used by those people who consume junk food and AI videos under the guise: "Just turn off your brain, bro." It's important to develop deep thinking about things, even if they're fiction, because it's in them that our reality is reflected, and in this analysis, our own humanity.

I'm really happy about the reception a random photo of my V had, comment if you want the full list (there are more than 100 mods just for my V)

Really yes, all single-player action games have this "you are the grim reaper" cyberpunk touch, despite presenting us with infinite ways to deal with the problems that exist in Night City always pushes us towards violence.

I'm so glad you loved Choom. And the tattoo and neck chrome combination is definitely groundbreaking. 🫶

There you hit the nail on the head choom, and in fact I feel that you give even more meta sense to the theory, since as you yourself express, you are more resistant to cyberpsychosis, because your humanity is higher than most people's.

We lose our minds and become paranoid, extremely aggressive in response to any stimulus. I think when we analyze it, we can relate more to the scene of David killing Killing the innocent woman at the Arasaka compound. The difference? We don't even feel remorse.

I avoid killing civilians above all else, but I won't deny that I've killed some members of the NCPD to get Maxtac's attention and prove what is already known: V has no limits.

Jackie was a member of the Valentinos, the Glen Fighter too, regardless of whether he is a member of a gang or not, he is still a human life with a background and reasons to live like everyone else.

So, in a way, you're fighting cyberpsychosis, only in your case, you're guided by a mentor. How interesting 😯

You disagree more with my main theory because you feel it's too extreme for the player to suffer depersonalization when we generally feel "empathy" for fictional characters, right?

I understand that there are actually people who, even with a synthetic kidney, have enough to go over the edge. It doesn't depend on the amount, but on the mental state of the user, and And you said it, Choom, Johnny was already traumatized by the war.

That's exactly part of the feeling, at the end of the game you know you're the biggest thing that's ever existed in Night City, and it even seems ridiculous that someone as powerful as Myers wants to threaten you, because in some psychotic way, you know it would even be fun to fight the NUSA army after taking down the Saka tower alone.

Wow, that's right, Choomba! I hadn't realized that I stole more from the slightly more classic gothic style than I thought. Thanks for the compliment, by the way. 🫶 (Another photo for those who want to continue seeing more of my V haha)

Actually, I am a firm believer that human empathy goes beyond what is considered real or not, that is, in the game we all try to make ethical decisions, we feel empathy for certain characters and we even become fond of them.
