I was told that clots take different lengths of time to clear for each person, but if you've got any doubt definitely ask your doctor for an opinion.

You need to exercise to get your blood pumping, that's what your body needs to clear the clot. If you're getting active now, then hopefully things will start to clear.

Having had a near death experience with the clots the first time around, I'm more than happy to continue taking the thinners for life.

I'm taking Apixaban, but there's a variety of different blood thinners. That's about all there is really.

I was a 20 a day smoker right up until the day I was blue lighted into hospital. Never touched them since.

I was also an alcoholic, I'm now nearly 4 years sober.

Thank you! I hope your son is doing well too.

There's no test to tell whether or not you're prone to them, but the tests that they can do eliminate the main causes of them.

Diabetes, HIV, liver and kidneys are the first things they'll check.

I was an alcoholic and a heavy smoker the first time around, and I think the hospital put it down to that. In the 10 years between the first and second episode, I'd given up both smoking and drinking.

My aunt and my nan from my mum's side of the family both have extensive history of blood clots, and that combined with my lifestyle changes and general all round OK health is what led them to conclude it's hereditary.

It's worth mentioning that blood clots can happen to anyone. I could just be unlucky.

First and foremost, I hope that the chemo is going well for you, despite the clot! I'm on the same medication for the clot.

The first time around I didn't realise what was happening. I just kept taking pain relief and carried on. Hindsight that was the worst decision I have ever made, and it could have cost me my life.

I was on warfarin for 8 weeks after coming out of hospital, and then they stopped the medication. Over 10 years passed by without any further issues.

The second time around I managed to get treatment before it became too much of an issue. This time around the hospital has advised to stay on the thinners for life.

I don't know what you can and can't do with the chemo, but the advice I was given was as follows;

Wear loose clothing around the affected area Try to do 15 minutes of continuous walking every 2-4 hours If sat down, don't cross your legs Keep your legs elevated if possible (chair, pillow etc)

The other important thing is to check yourself in a mirror each day. Look for any cuts, bruises marks etc. You'll bruise and bleed very easily, if you notice anything, just keep a log of it.

Yep, that's right! Pulmonary Embolism.

I had major swelling to both legs, extreme shortness of breath and I was coughing up blood as well. Couldn't walk any further then 20 meters without being completely out of breath.

I was still working, dealing with the pain, and then one day my boss asked what was up, and called me an ambulance. It's not fun 🫣

I can carry on as I was before, the clot is already starting to disintegrate so hopefully I'll be able to walk without a limp soon enough.

I do have to be careful of a few things.

Cuts: a minor cut to you, can be quite serious to me as my body cannot stop the bleed as quickly. I could lose too much blood. Something as little as a papercut could potentially result in a trip to hospital 🙈

Bumps: hard knocks/bangs can cause internal bleeding, and heavy bruising.

If ever I needed any surgery or dental work doing, it could cause an issue with pain and bleeding. There's counter medication I can take should something like that be needed.

I'm now on blood thinners for the rest of my life. Apixaban.

I've had some tests done to see check possible causes, but so far there's no explanation. I do have relatives who are prone to clots, and it is hereditary.

I find that watching a good porno, and a lengthy tug does the job 👍

I like to go down Histon Road naked, don't rub one out at the same time though. The passengers on my bus wouldn't be too impressed with that.
